Opinions on some novels

Herbert is from The Way to Eden (or so I'm assuming)

"Mr. Spock... what does 'Herbert' mean?"
"It is somewhat... uncomplimentary, captain. Herbert was a minor official -- notorious for his rigid and limited patterns of thought." - Kirk and Spock on the hippies' epithet

Which was an affectionate dig at former Desilu exec Herbert F. Solow, who bought Star Trek and got it on the air.

And when young hippie Tongo Rad was brought back as an older, stuffy, fussy, pompous suit-wearing type in a DC Comic, it was revealed to be his real name, too, IIRC.

^^Which is perhaps fitting, since Victor Brandt, who played Tongo Rad, has grown up to be a character actor who plays a lot of authority figures. Although not nearly as much so as fellow space hippie Charles Napier, who went on to become the epitome of the no-nonsense military guy in countless productions.

^Including DS9's "Little Green Men", Napier was the General in charge of the Ferengi.

So...I'm being compared to a Desilu exec? Sweet.

I read Battle of Betazed in one sitting the day it came out and I hardly remember anything about it. I do remember being extremely underwhelmed though. There was certainly someextraordinary hype about the book on this board - and it kind of fell flat in my eyes.
