Opinions on Michael Eddington

I can't simaltaneously debate four or five people.

It's been fun and an intellectually stimulating debate but I must pull out I don't have the stamina to engage all of you simaltaneously for weeks on end.

So I'm pulling out of this thread!

Viva la Maquis! And Viva la Eddington!

How are you supposed to leave your mark on the world as an evil conqueror with such a lackluster work ethic? #Low-Energy-Dictator #Sad

I have tangled with all of you for weeks, it's wearing me out I don't have an unlimited amount of energy, or resolve.

It's been a productive debate.

Yes the federation harassed and persecuted the Maquis and their sympathizers, plotted against them, overtly betrayed them and hunted them like rabid dogs. If Eddington had destroyed the Defiant or Ro the Enterprise I would have been on their side.

Dude. You can't betray something you never promised to support. Eddington swore an oath to Starfleet, hence he betrayed it. On the other hand, Sisko never swore an oath or made a promise to support the Maquis, so he never betrayed them.

Hunting them like rapid dogs would be simply killing them as expeditiously as possible. The Federation didn't do that either.

Instead the Federation would have happily found a garden spot planet or two and moved them there. (I think most of the settlers probably took that offer, we just didn't see them on the screen.) Sometimes people have to be resettled with some degree of coercion. Israel occupied the Sinai for a long time and part of the peace agreement with Egypt was returning the Sinai and evacuating the settlers. There have been towns in areas to be flooded by dams that had to be evacuated. When British India was partitioned into India and Pakistan, many Hindus in Pakistan moved to India and many Muslims in India moved to Pakistan, over 14 million people migrated. It's unpleasant, but better than making war against their country, with little to no chance of success.

Not for the settlers, and if they win they can keep their homes.

You fought the good fight.

Remember the Maquis also faced multiple foes and on multiple fronts. The odds were overwhelmingly against them as well. However, that is as far as I will go with the analogy because I know there will be someone who will point out that the Maquis lost. :sigh::eek:
