Opinion of Superbowl VW SW THE FORCE ad?

It is a funny and endearing advertisement, a success for VW and Lucas. For me because as a boy in 1977 Halloween I was Darth Vader too. What is your opinion of the Superbowl VW SW THE FORCE ad?

I loved it, though I actually saw a longer version of it about 5 days ago online, so I was a little disappointed that they edited it down for the Super Bowl.

Even the TV homage ad was just "okay", though I did get a little smile hearing them hiding the "Dallas" theme around the first half.

I saw the ad a couple of days ago on a BBS'ers facebook page (i even stole it for mine). It is absolutely adorable and so clever. I loved it!

When was the last time the majority of superbowl ads were 'good'? I've heard the same complaint - "they were really bad this year!" for as long as I can remember.

I dunno, I vaguely remember them being fun a couple years ago. Last year they were lame, but it looked like there was at least an attempt. This year it was just boring, like they weren't even trying.

The Force VW was cute. I liked the Beetle one better though.

The lack of zebras/clydesdales and geckos was sorely felt.

The last time I remember them being really entertaining was the late 90s and early 00s. Since 2004 or so they just haven't been that great.

The Darth Vader one was okay I guess. The only one I remember actually liking was the one that had Kenny G in it, it was a commercial for some car where the rich guys break out of the posh prison. "Scandal, scandal!"

I think there's been a gradual decline in quality ever since the dot-coms have gotten more heavily involved in the advertising. Not all of them are bad, mind you, but to me they seem to be more lackluster on average than some of the more established companies. Maybe that lack of panache and wit has rubbed off on other advertisers who think it's enough to just get the namedrop during the Super Bowl without wasting a lot of money on making the commercial itself.

But I do think there's been a noticeable decline in quality over the past several years. Watching the commercials used to be an event I looked forward to almost as much as the game itself. Now it's kind of an afterthought, and if there are five halfway poignant or funny ones at best I'd consider that pretty good.

On that note, my favorites, in order:

1) Chrysler-Eminem-Detroit
2) Volkswagen-Vader Kid
3) Volkswagen Beetle-Black Betty
4) Chevy Camaro-Miss Evelyn
5) Audi-Release the Hounds

So, at least car commercials seem to be keeping the tradition of classic Super Bowl commercials alive.

Now, the worst:

- GoDaddy: Your commercials are always poorly done and tasteless.
- Doritos Finger Licking Guy: Just creepy as all hell.
- Snickers: Hey, let's do the same gag as the Betty White commercial last year, but worse.
- Bud Light Kitchen Remodel: Yeah, uh, Heineken already did this one with a remodeled Heineken closet.
- Chevy Cruze Facebook Status Updates From Your Car: Unless your car is armored against potential assassination attempts, your life is not interesting enough that you need to do status updates from it.

It was ok , but the "Go Daddy" one with Joan Rivers, now some things just shouldn't be seen. :barf:
I mean that just wasn't right.

No, that one was so creepy that it was awesome.

As always, I love the E-Trade commercials with the talking baby, but they don't really do anything special. Their commercials are just as hilarious throughout the rest of the year.

The VW/Darth Vader kid was my favorite. I could see my 4 year old grandson in that costume.

The boy in the ad is Max Page. He's a little charmer.

My vote for most disgusting ad goes to the Groupon.com people. I canceled my account with them in protest.
