I like the intro music and imagery better than Discovery's. It's far more natural, whereas Disco has awkward Trek parts slapped on the beginning and end of it's theme.

The theme song? I always thought one of the main Trek themes would be used in-universe at some point but when DS9 had the perfect opportunity ---the Federation national athem-- they played some farty generic noise. How amazing would the TMP/TNG theme have been at that moment?

Dusted off my account to say that I watched "The Inner Light" tonight... And the main melody from "Star Trek: Picard" is a note-for-note lift from the episode! It's the tune Kamin's son is playing off-screen in the scene when Kamin is looking through his telescope, about 30 minutes in.

Incredible! I couldn't believe it, but you're right! It's just a little faster, but he plays the 9 notes of the main theme at the beginning and the end! They really, really, did their research!

At least the "To boldly go" thing is an in-universe platitude quoted ad nauseam from Zep Cochrane himself.

But the theme might be better for Starfleet than for the Federation: the heroes hail from the former while being hindered in their adventures by the bureaucrats and politicians of the latter. So what we really need is a parade, a bit like as in the first episode of nuBSG.

...The perfect opportunity in-universe would have been the memorial at the end of ST:ID, really. But I'm glad it wasn't wasted on that one yet.

I think that the simpleness and slowness of the theme is great. It makes you feel like you are coming home

It is slightly reminiscent of the opening theme of "West World" except that the Picard theme doesn't seem to actually go anywhere.

The visuals made a lot more sense after I'd watched the episode though!

I really like the music from the Inner light I have a star trek music cd that has the music where Picard played the rissikan flute I thought I recognized it from that Tng show.

I'm not quite in love with the images in the opening or their pacing, as they strike me as somewhat muddled once we get to the Borg imagery. However, I'm delighted about the theme. I still don't think it quite comes to a clear climax, but after listening to it just once I found myself humming it periodically for days. It's doing something right. It might be my favorite opening tune next to Voyager's.
