Opening Credits?

The intro is kinda interesting, but also underwhelming. Parts are like James Bond intros, but the music seems generic with no clear direction or theme tune.
Yes, exactly what I don't like about the Discovery theme. The absence of a theme.

Still, it's visually way ahead of DISCO and the tune does sound pleasant to the ears. Overall, I'm satisfied.

And yeah, the TMP tune at the end gave me serious goosebumps.

The TNG theme was basically the TMP theme. I'm glad they're finally getting their own
It's not JUST The Motion Picture theme...

IT IS THE U.S.S. ENTERPRISE THEME !!!

(this still gives me goosebumps after Forty Years)
"... thank you, Mr. Scott..."

I do often wish folks would get it right!
(dang younger whippersnappers think TNG was it's origin)
:nyah:

It's interesting that the image of an Eye is very predominant through out the titles.

I guess a Synth can be discovered by scanning the eyes.

Obviously the eyes lead to the soul.

Nah. Distinct Eye imagery has been in Star Trek since Discovery. Just look at my profile pic. We all know what it really means right?:D

Led Zeppelin would be my choice for music. Communication Breakdown? Kind of fits the theme that Star Fleet is no longer the clean-cut do-gooder of the galaxy?

Okay..I listened more attentivly...and guess what I found out? The theme is related to the TNG theme in a closer way then just a few notes of it playing at the end. What actually happens from a compositional point of view is that the theme is basically constructed around slow variations (some notes added, substracted, keys changed etc) of one the TNG themes secondary musical motifs. Listen closely to the motif playing here from 1:18 to about 1:21 or 1:22:

and the to the ST: Picard Theme. Do you hear how its basically almost the TNG motif beeing played, toyed with, varied in different ways?

Here it is. I kinda like it, its simple, uncomplicated, sweet and nostalgic. It reminds my of the resican flute theme. I´m not a music theorist...but the main motive actually sounds a bit inspired by that...
To me, some musical elements of it seem very "Firefly"-esque; but it's interesting it really doesn't touch on the ST:TMP/TNG musical theme at all except for a very shot chord of it at the very end. (Still haven't seen the full Ep.1 myself as yet.)

Meh - Visually it's on par with STD (supposedly taking elements and visual queues from episodes of the series we'll be seeing) - but I still liked the STD technical drawing style shots of Federation gear and the U.S.S. Discovery myself better than what they did for STP here.

Different strokes for different folks. ;)

To those have seen the pilot -Is the end theme just a shorter version of the main theme, a variant of it or something completely different ala Star Trek Enterprise?

I liked it, it was surprisingly Borg-heavy, but the eye at the end transforming into an exploding Romulus was a really nice touch. It almost felt like Fringe's intros in a good way. As for the theme music, it was nice, but nothing special; it reminded me of The Sims 4 and the Elder Scrolls, so I guess most might categorize it as reminiscent of generic video game music. Maybe that's the good word - it was a bit generic.

I actually think the theme is pretty good! Definitely one of the better modern TV themes. The bar for this is pretty low though, and most movie and TV themes are much more basic than in the past. A plus for Picard's theme is that there is an actual melody you can pick out and sing. It's plaintive, lyrical, and beautiful instead of soaring and bombastic, but that's ok.

The opening visuals of ST:VOY are very hard to beat, especially for its time. Anyway, check out the Inner Light fan composition:

I think, composers during the 2010s got carried away by the sheer orchestral blasting power they then got. They were all loud, marching orders, like the Matt-Smith-Doctor-Who tune, the Kelvin timeline tunes, or the Marvel tunes.

Compare with piano adaptions (yes, only two days later)
