Only the good ones, season 6

Hi to everyone! I hope you enjoyed Christmas and got off to a good start in 2008!

The last time I posted one of these is about a month ago so apologies for that.

Anyway, here's the poll for season 6. Choose the episodes that you think make this a great season and drop the ones that drag it down in your view.

Personally, I think there's a lot of room for improvement in this season just by dropping certain episodes.

Here's the polls for the seasons so far:

Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4
Season 5

Happy voting!

As I mentioned above, I think this is a season that would really benefit from dropping certain episodes. I think the season as it is is jarring because it has some of the most amazing DS9 material but also some of the worst episodes and/or individual moments that tend to hurt the overall experience.

Here are the episodes that I would drop:

- Sons and Daughters: There's good material in the Kira/Dukat part but I wonder why on earth they decided to bring back Alexander let alone at this point. The episode hurts the pacing and quality of the opening six parter, I think, which IMHO would work much better without this.
- Resurrection: At this point, the Mirror Universe had lost any appeal in my eyes. This episode IMHO was a lame attempt to bring back Bareil for an episode which is both unnecessary (at least in this form) and badly executed.
- The Magnificent Ferengi: Yes, it's one of the more enjoyable Ferengi episodes but I just can't get over the fact that they wasted Keevan like this.
- Who mourns for Morn?: Not bad but nothing I'd miss in the slightest. It's amusing but simply not funny enough, I think.
- Honor among Thieves: Basically, a good episode but I think it suffers from a bad premise. It seems ludicrous to me to send O'Brien on a mission like this.
- Change of Heart: Again, not a bad episode. Here, it's the ending that guts the story in my view. This is where Jadzia should have died IMHO. The way it is, it seems silly to send a married couple on a mission like this and we learn nothing new about Worf or Dax, I think.
- Wrongs darker than Death or Night: Again, there's a problem with the premise. Sisko and Kira both seem to believe Kira's actually going back in time (which is in line with Trials- and Tribble-ations) and don't really seem to have a problem with it (The Prophets will take care that the timeline will be ok? And what about the events in Trials- and Tribble-ations?).
- Profit and Lace: I don't dislike this as much as others (I think it's pretty standard goofy Ferengi material, actually) but the season IMHO would definitely be stronger without it.
- Time's Orphan: This feels like it's ripped straight from TNG or VOY to me (I think something like this is actually this case IIRC) and as a consequence, it feels very much out of place. I find it hard to watch, pointless and just plain annoying.

What that leaves is - IMHO - a much more focused, much stronger season 6 with 17 episodes:

- A Time to Stand
- Rocks and Shoals
- Behind the Lines
- Favor the Bold
- Sacrifice of Angels
- You are cordially invited
- Statistical Probabilities
- Waltz
- Far beyond the Stars
- One little Ship
- Inquisition
- In the Pale Moonlight
- His Way
- The Reckoning
- Valiant
- The Sound of her Voice
- Tears of the Prophets

What? No love for "Wrongs Darker Than Death Or Night"? That's a wonderful episode, IMHO.

It's really the problem with the premise that makes me want to exclude this episode. I really don't understand why they made it the way they did. I mean, why couldn't the whole experience simply be a vision or something like what happens to Benjamin in Far Beyond the Stars. You'd still have been able to tell the story without having this issue of Sisko and Kira not caring about the consequences this time travel experience might have.

Can I just vote for the entire season. Dang what a great season, dang we need something the equivalent of this back on the small screen. Dang I miss DS9 (new stuff)

As usual, here's a quick roundup of those episodes that received at least half the amount of points of the top-scoring ones:

01 A Time to Stand
02 Rocks and Shoals
03 Behind the Lines
04 Favor the Bold
05 Sacrifice of Angels
06 You are cordially invited
07 Statistical Probabilities
08 The Magnificent Ferengi
09 Waltz
10 Who mourns for Morn?
11 Far beyond the Stars
12 One little Ship
13 Honor among Thieves
14 Inquisition
15 In the Pale Moonlight
16 His Way
17 The Reckoning
18 The Sound of her Voice
19 Tears of the Prophets

I think it's no surprise that shows like Profit and Lace or Time's Orphan don't make it here. I am a little surprised that The Magnificent Ferengi makes the cut.
Other than that I'm a little surprised that only A Time to Stand and In the Pale Moonlight got the maximum score, especially concerning some of the other episodes in the season six opening arc.

Thanks to everyone for voting so far!

I'll be setting up the S7 poll in a few minutes...

Oh "Profit and Lace", why do they hate you so?

Granted it is a bit of a farce, but how many episodes on Trek are there when a lead male character has a sex change? More of it i say! Trans-people are Star Trek Fans too!

:bolian:

Btw I have no idea what "IMHO" means. Damn these new-fangled accronyms!

^^
In my humble opinion = IMHO.

I voted for all but five. Unfortunately, the bad episode seem to come in runs for me, with Change of Heart and Wrongs Darker than Death or Night together & Profit and Lace, Time's Orphan, and The Sound of Her Voice (which loses because of the weak twist ending) together.

Resurrection, Profit and Lace, and Time's Orphan and the few I rarely re-watch. Otherwise a very strong season. Nest would be The Sound Of Her Voice. The inexplicable payoff in that one sucked, and nearly made me take it off the list. Nearly. Close.
