Actually, Sisko is back in the books, and has even rejoined Starfleet (for the Borg war), so there ya go, GS.
You may be a less critical poster than some, but, trust me, there was a time when any poster who positive comment on Voyager would be laughed off the board as a Star Trek "lightweight."
Just as an example, when I first heard that Janeway was killed in PD's book, I made a comment that it was a shame to kill off a character who was the first female captain and a role model to so many young girls who need encouragement to go into math and science. I was immediately castigated for calling her the "first female captain" because there were so many others--like Rachel Garrett of the Enterprise C, and other females briefly on the screen. The responders knew that I meant the first female captain star of a series, but decided to "play dumb" and show off their Star Trek knowledge, I suppose, while displaying my ignorance. As for the "role model" comment, they used the "f" word--just more "feminist" posing. I suppose they believe that Janeway isn't a role model for young girls, or that young girls don't need encouragement (or shouldn't try) to go into math and science. Mulgrew has constantly been told by female fans that her character was a role model. The point is that my post was not taken seriously and basically made fun of. Too bad they didn't run me off, no?![]()
Also, I didn't realize Kira was kind of the major player now, sans Sisko. To be fair, though, he was "killed" in the show, not so much the books. You go into the books knowing that.
Paramount/CBS refused to let PB kill her off permanently. They aren't stupid.![]()
I think Lady Q is very much the same situation for Janeway that the prophets were for Sisko. She isn't really dead, just not present at the moment. As for what she's doing, well, time for the Q and for the prophets isn't linear. She can show up at any moment and, to her, even a few years down the line, it could be one second after her disappearance.
Gone forever? Paramount/CBS refused to let PB kill her off permanently. They aren't stupid.![]()
I'm almost afraid to ask, but how would they have used Jeri Ryan in Nemesis?
I wonder whether it was some sort of odd joke...
Considering Janeway has such a passionate, cult-like following (and I mean that in a nice way), it would appear foolish to keep her dead.
But that assumes the Janeway fans bought the books when she was alive. The Voyager novels were supposedly the least successful of the Pocket books Star Trek line and we know from prior Janeway threads that many Janeway fans don't actually have any interest in the books and just want her alive on principle.
Also Janeway's death has created more interest in Voyager books than there ever was when she was alive.
However if Kirk can stay dead after well falling off a bridge, I don't see the need for Janeway to get better treatment.
However if Kirk can stay dead after well falling off a bridge, I don't see the need for Janeway to get better treatment. I mean the Sisko is gone and Kirk is gone, then Janeway and even Archer lost his beagle(thanks to nuScotty)...
Novel wise Riker, Dax, Calhoun and Picard better watch out.
Maybe time for Picard to accept promotion or retire. What is he, 76 after Destiny?
