One-year countdown thread!

A little late today, sorry! Yay on "Blue Skies"!

I did a search and came up with this version, by George Olsen, from the same year.

Change of pace today. Here's the world's shortest movie preview ever:

Wow. This decade has flown by!

In the year 2223 of Star Trek Future:

Memory Alpha said:
Relations between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire degenerate, giving rise to some 70 years of unremitting hostility as the two powers become embroiled in a tense cold war. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

It may have been in this year that Starfleet adopted or first considered adopting its policy to secretly survey a culture before initiating First Contact, as referenced in "First Contact".

According to the Memory Beta link, 2223 is the year Sybok was born. IMO STV is vastly underrated, and the most TOS-like of the movies.

Shatner may not have been the best director to ever helm the franchise but he did have a clue about a few things which made TOS click.

I once screened it for a friend who only ever watched any Trek when I forced her. After-wards I asked her what she thought and her response was the same as your statement above; "...most TOS like", of the films up to that time.

In honor of Scotty's future birthyear, here is the unofficial biography of Montgomery Scott, as told by Simon Pegg...
Simon Pegg said:
Here's my take on Scotty's past. Feel free to link it to any Star Trek communities that might be interested. I put it together from research I have done into the character and small flourishes of my own. It is done for fun but with love and respect for the mythology and the character.

Montgomery Scott was born on March 3rd 2222, in Linlithgow, West Lothian. His parents eventually moved him and his brother Robert to Aberdeen, where his sister Clara was born. An exceptional student Scotty (or Mad Monty as his friends called him) was advanced forward several years in the educational system, meaning his intellectual peers were all at University age, whilst he was a mere 14. As a result, he spent much of his time crawling the pubs of Aberdeen with is friends, drinking and getting into fights about thermodynamics and quantum mechanics with men twice his size. At the age of 16, he came to the attention of professors at the Advanced Relativistic Physics Department at Glasgow University, after disproving the Prerera Theory (regarding photon torpedo detonation) and was transferred to study there for a year (where he really picked up the accent) before being accepted to Starfleet Academy on a scholarship.
However he deferred his placement in favor of practical experience in space, working aboard mining ships and freighters, in particular the USS Deirdre, where he fell in love with engineering.
Eventually he attended Starfleet and finished top of his graduating year, although the honor was later stripped due to disciplinary action taken against him due to "highly speculative and dangerous experiments with matter transfer".
The rest as they say is the future.

At last, the Tweens!

2219

Memory Alpha
Richard Daystrom is born. (TOS: "The Ultimate Computer")

Memory Beta
Births and Deaths
Christopher Pike is born on Earth. [1]TOS novel: Burning Dreams
Richard Daystrom is born. [2]Last Unicorn RPG module: All Our Yesterdays: The Time Travel Sourcebook

2218 on Memory Alpha:
Events
According to a speech given by John Gill, the Zeon colony on Ekos was established shortly after this year. (TOS: "Patterns of Force")

Notes
According to the Star Trek Chronology and other reference works, 2218 was the year in which the Federation made first contact with the Klingon Empire, supposedly based on a line spoken by Dr. McCoy in the TOS episode "Day of the Dove". Not only have events in the ENT pilot "Broken Bow" proven this false, but it appears that line of dialog never actually made it to the finished episode.

2218 on Memory Beta:
Events
The USS Sentry becomes the first Federation Starfleet vessel to encounter a warship from the Klingon Empire, the IKV Devisor, near Gamma Demetrius. [1]TOS novel: The Final Reflection

The USS Ranger is destroyed by Klingons during a disastrous first contact with Agbar IV. [2] Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual

Births and Deaths
Ngoj, head of the noble House of Ngoj, is killed fighting Romulans on Nequencia.[3] TOS novel: Excelsior: Forged in Fire

Qagh the Albino born to the House of Ngoj on Qo'noS. His mother orders the deformed infant slain, but he is simply left to the elements, and before dying acquired by Orion pirates.[3] TOS novel: Excelsior: Forged in Fire

Mirror Universe
Imperial Starfleet carries out General Order 24, exterminating all life on Qo'noS, the Klingon homeworld. The planet is then claimed by the growing Terran Empire. [4] Decipher RPG module: Through a Glass, Darkly

References and Notes
The destruction of the Ranger may have been the last, fatal encounter between the Klingon Empire and Starfleet-described as having been 50 years before the year McCoy makes the statement; in ST reference: Star Trek Chronology. The scene was deleted from the final cut of TOS episode: "Day of the Dove", but would have supported Spock's comment about it having been over, "70 years," of hostility, in TOS movie: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. The canon ENT episode: "Broken Bow" possibly makes Agbar Four first contact with QuchHa' Klingons, in the 23rd century. The IKS Amar transmission (from TOS movie: Star Trek: The Motion Picture) would therefore be the "re-introductuon" of HemQuch Klingons, after the 22nd century; as "outsider" aliens (DS9 episode: "Trials and Tribble-ations") theoretically wouldn't identify them. Most individuals who already know and seen this ethnic group, by the 2270s, are already dead (ENT episode: "In a Mirror, Darkly").

TOS novel: The Final Reflection
An all-time classic:techman:

And in Trek news today, the novelization of Star Trek Into Darkness has been announced, adapted by Alan Dean Foster (who wrote the novelization for Star Trek, as well as a follow-up, Star Trek: Refugees, which was placed on indefinite hold along with three other nuTrek novels, in 2010. Foster also wrote expanded adaptations of the animated Trek episodes in the 70's and has a story credit on Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The movie, not the novel.)
