One world Government... of ants...

Be careful of where you point that magnifying glass, you may suffer retribution from the United Ant Supercolonies of Earth.

I have a massive fire ant colony out in the woods. As part of the treaty they stay in the woods, and I won't use chemical WMDs on them. Except for any new outposts they might try to set up in the yard.

Did you know that if an ant explorer does not return from a mission, the ants mark the trail with "danger signs"?

But... how?

I mean I can see them all being descendant from a single colony, why the heck not? But one large global colony? They don't have a way around the world to maintain that sort of connection... do they?

Apparently because of the regular shipping that happens, the ants from the unified supercolonies tend to continually move about, so the genetic connection between the colonies is perhaps fresher that normal?

Who knows, the ants from the unified supercolonies may have a heightened instinct to travel over their non-unified ants, so they're more likely to spread and remingle with other colonies...

...should I be worried I keep using the phrase 'unified' as if the ants had planned this?

Well, if they do take over, one thing can be assured.

Ant Overlord Human Directive #1: Every day henceforth shall be a picnic.

This seems like so much hyperbole...so what, ants of cetain kinds recognize each other as kindred. it means hey have a genetic similarity that makes them see each other as the same, that's all it means. It hardly means there's a Supercolony...whatever the heck that means. It just means the colonies overlap and have fuzzy borders.
