One thing ST looks to have actually got right about the future...

hmm, so what if a screen cover came with the laptop that had what looks and feels like buttons, but is basically a projection surface for the laser keyboard? Benefits: actually see the different letters when typing in other languages; doesn't slow-roast your palms.

I've seen keyboards that have no actual surface of any kind, it's just a projector that 'beams' the image of a keyboard onto any flat surface which can then be typed on as if the keyboard was actually there.

Like this?!?

Now that I think about it, I don't know how flexible laser tech is.. could it project more than one set of signs?

That's the one. I don't know the science behind it (meaning, how it detects your key presses) but it looks really cool.

If you want a keyboard with arbitrary symbols on it, get an Optimus Maximus.

"One shall stand...one shall type!"

"QWERTY is the right of all sentient beings."

Those are really not any good for prolonged typing, actually they're not good for any actual typing... the search-and-press-key method is the only thing they're good for as they have problems with figuring out just which of your fingers are actually 'pressing' when you have them all ten on it.

I suppose it would work fine if you have a two- or perhaps even a four finger typing style though.

I wish voice recognition would get better, typing needs to fade away.

But then people who are awesome at typing wouldn't have as much to brag about.
People brag about it?

We already have voice recognition. They're called secretaries. :p
Voice recognition doesn't get mad if you forget Secretaries' Day.

Voice recognition would take a while to get used to, as written language is often different from the way we speak. We'd have to pick up the skill of talking as if we were typing. I guess people with secretaries already do that, though. Still, it's a little cumbersome, isn't it? You'd get parched just from writing a paper for school.. you couldn't do it at night while your parents are sleeping.. and going back in to edit would be a lot less intuitive than just using a mouse. No, I think keyboards will always supplement voice recognition.

Hell with that. I'm the kind of person who's thought process is so quick and erratic that I somethings think one word, decide to switch to a different word, but when I speak it's a combination of the two. Then, I'll follow up with a series of cursing and grumbling. I might type something and then decide to delete a word or the entire last statement/sentence.

VR wouldn't work for people such as myself. The machine would most likely kill itself.

I don't much care for voice recognition myself. I hate the sound of my own voice, so I wouldn't want to have to speak all the things I type here.

But for people who *can't* type, I'm sure it'd be very useful.
