Second what about this if he(spock) was willing to die for a captain he new for a short time (pike) what would he do for a man(kirk)and friend he has known for years and who has risked his (kirk) life, death , and even his own child's life for. There is no way spock doesn't tell his younger self to help keep Kirk from dying!!!!!!
Third JJ abrams is very good at keeping a secret look at lost(answer one question create two) and cloverfield no one saw the monster early(and trust me I looked) Having Shatner in the film and having it a surprise would be the biggest coup of his career!!!!! These are just my thoughts what about you.

I think he has too. To not have Shatner in the film doesn't make sense. Why cast a child kirk, then a young cadet Kirk, and not show Current/old Kirk?

Obfuscation is a trait of Abrams, for sure.

But flat out lying? Nope. Abrams and Nimoy have both said he *won't* be in the movie.

That's just the way the cookie crumbled.

Let's just lay the movie aside for a second and enter into the star trek world. You mean to tell me no one believes that old spock will not tell young spock how to prevent Kirks death in the future? Not even a one min warning?

Could you please tell us why you think Spock only knew Pike for a short time? Don't believe that's said anywhere on screen.

As for "saving Kirk", Spock's purpose in the film isn't to save Kirk, but rather the Federation by preventing Kirk from being killed before he can be the Starfleet hero Spock knows him to be.

Saving Kirk, either during the confrontation with Soran, or during his visit on Enterprise B, isn't the aim.

He'd already been the hero and retired. His dying after that did nothing to change the history Spock knows.

Yeah I believe it. Kirk's been dead a long time by this point. People die, Spock gets that. He wouldn't screw up the time stream that badly just to bring back James Kirk.

And where would older Spock have even learned about the Soran confrontation from? Picard? When? Where?

My impression from GENERATIONS has been that Picard left Kirk's death on Enterprise B as the official story, and kept quiet about what happened on the planet Enterprise D crashed on.

I mean, Picard's an upfront guy and all, but to admit that in the same day he'd lost his ship AND was involved in the death of a just-rescued famous hero?

I got the feeling Picard left the official record intact, and don't see how or when Spock could have found out.

If, however, we're saying Kirk was rescued from Enterprise B before the nexus ribbon grabbed him, then that leaves the entire TNG crew dead at Soran's hands, along with the people of the planet in that system, because Kirk wouldn't have been in the nexus for Picard to ask for help from.

It's been pointed out more than once that it could be a "SURE Kirk's not gonna be in the film" situation, where the first screening audience will, in the last 60 seconds before the credits roll, see a BIG surprise they weren't expecting (such as Kirk being there when Spock returns from the past).

Wait and see.

They can say "no" all they want, but some people lie when it suits them.

Actually, he knew Pike far LONGER than he knew Kirk, if what we know from TOS is all there is.

Do you recall Spock's name being even MENTIONED during that film?
