"One hundred twentynine years.."

So Prime Spock comes from 129 years in the future. That means for him Kirk was dead for 104 years (marking his death at his disappearance into the Nexus.) It must have been quite an amazing thing for him to actually be with his old friend again on Delta Vega. The time frame does raise a question for me. Spock is surprised that Kirk is not the captain of the Enterprise at the age of 25.. at what age did Kirk become captain in the original timeline? I assumed it was a bit older due to him wasting his father-less life for a few years at least. Was the Enterprise sent on its maiden voyage in the same year in both timelines I wonder?

If Spock were human I would suggest he was just a bit muddled as to when things happened but I think that unlikely. Posters have suggested that Kirk was made captain early because of the destruction of so many starships at Vulcan as well as possibly whatever was going on in the Laurentian system.. but Spock himself indicates that Kirk would have been captain of the Enterprise at a younger age.

Here's the dates:

2233 James T. Kirk born both timelines
2293 James T. Kirk disappears into the Nexus in the Prime timeline
2258 Nu James T. Kirk meets Prime Spock on Delta Vega

Thoughts?

2233 James T. Kirk born both timelines
2293 James T. Kirk disappears into the Nexus in the Prime timeline
2258 Nu James T. Kirk meets Prime Spock on Delta Vega
A few more date, as I recall ...

2230~~Spock born
2233~~Kirk born / nuKirk born.
2240's~Enterprise launched (Capt. April)
2251~~Kirk enters academy at age 18
2255~~Kirk graduates / nuKirk enters academy at age 22
2256~~Spock serves under Pike aboard Enterprise
2258~~nuEnterprise launched
2267~~Kirk presently captain of enterprise at age 34

According to Spock, Nero waited 25 years for his arrival.

Aren't most of these Prime-universe dates conjecture from the Star Trek Chronology?

No-one actually knows when Kirk took command of the Prime-1701 (or became captain). All I've heard is guestimates of "30something" based on Shatner's age at the start of TOS, and The Making of Star Trek.

^I know, I was just pointing out that so much of the TOS characters' backgrounds are conjecture, and the age Kirk became captain popped into my head first (probably because of all the complaining recently over Old Spock assuming 25-year-old Kirk was captain of the Enterprise on Delta Vega). Stuff like the age of the TOS Enterprise (launched in 2245 according to the Star Trek Chronology) is even contradicted by on-screen dialogue in STIII.

I've read old novels and comics that postulate that Kirk was captain of a ship before the Enterprise. In (some of) the old comics it was the USS Saladin, and that mission may have lasted years.

I've also read conjecture somewhere (It may have been an old Best of Trek book) that the 5-year mission in TOS was Kirk and co's second, and that "Where No Man..." with it's different uniforms and props and the time required to reach the galactic rim, is actually a mission from the first (I think a line in TMP kills this idea, though)

Perhaps Spock isn't aware of the exact date until he sees Kirk and starts asking him questions.

Just in case you all missed it from a new clone thread that's popped up, Spock Prime aparrently didn't know the date until he'd actually started his mind-meld with Kirk.

I think that is quite likely. So this means that as he melded with Kirk the date would be a given and that would have enabled him to say "One hundred twentynine years.." Perhaps he was even saying it to himself on one level as he processed what time frame he was in now.
