Once Upon A Time Season 5 Discussion Thread -Spoilers

I was a little surprised to see Red being Dorothy's true love when they already had an established lesbian character in the group, but it was still a nice story. Red is one of my favorite characters, so I was glad to see so much of her.
I am curious to see who Zelena is going to end up siding with in the end.
I didn't see the preview for next week's since I watched it on Hulu this morning, did they show Snow at all? I'm just wondering if this is the last we'll see of her until they leave the Underworld.

It was probably the last of both her and Belle this season as they are out for their maternity leaves.

That was my first thought with Ginnifer Goodwin, but I wasn't sure of the real world timeline.

Man. Poor Mulan. Always the bridesmaid...

I was also (pleasantly) surprised how much LGBT content they showed on an 8pm Disney show. I expected a single chaste kiss. On the other hand, it'd be a lot more brave to show two men making out than two women.

I was so excited about this episode that I told my co-workers about it. We have an LGBT committee in the office that plans for annual Pride events in June (self-identified members and allies of the community). People were thrilled and curious. Some were vaguely familiar with the show, and others like myself watch it religiously.

The cutest comment came from my colleague, a mother of two. She said the kiss was so natural; her kids said,

“Oh, Red ‘like likes’ Dorothy, not just like.”

I have to say I mostly watch the show out of a habbit these days. I don't find the episodes interesting, I think the plotlines are a bit naive. Not that I do not enjoy it at all, but if I was not a regular watcher I wouldn't start watching it now.

Zelena's character has improved though, I find her more interesting now than last year.

Given that the season is nearly over, though, it's pretty impressive that they're only NOW writing her out of the proceedings.

I really liked tonight's episode, especially the relationship dynamic between Cora and her two daughters. If this Underworld arc has a moral lesson, it's that no matter what horrible things people do, they deserve a chance at redemption if they change. Hell is a Judeo-Christian concept after all. Sadly, there was no hope for David's twin brother James.

The ending was unexpected. I thought Regina would successfully dissuade Zelena from seeing Hades, but she ended up supporting her by not getting in her way. Which to me doesn't make much sense, considering Hades is the sinister, devious ruler of the Underworld who wants to keep the heroes imprisoned down there. The preview for next week's episode shows he might actually aid Emma and the others.

I was a little startled to learn that "dead" people in the Underworld can't be killed unless they go in the magic water. Did we already know these people are impervious to all other harm? What's to stop the dead from just grabbing our heroes and tossing them in the water?

Can I be the first to suggest Hook was "shafted" in this ep?

Not sure how I feel about this one. I hope we didn't spend the last 2 months in Underbrook for no good reason.

And I have only one thing to say about the teaser for next week.













They better not kill Snow White, or riots will erupt!

Hades really is an incorrigible and deceptive villain who had Zelena and the others completely fooled. For a moment I thought he was genuinely willing to help the others leave the Underworld. Hook and Emma saw through the deception soon enough when they found out there was no more ambrosia left. Regina, David, Henry, and Robin were locked up inside a building while Hades fled with Zelena and her baby to the living world.

There wasn't anything particularly expository about the flashback with the bounty hunter. All it showed was how Emma got her leather jacket. And telling Cleo's daughter about her biological mother after she died did nothing but upset the young woman. "Oh, by the way, I knew your real mom, and she's dead."

What I did like was how Rumple stuck it to his father Peter Pan and made him believe he was going to bring him back to life in Storybrooke. I never saw that coming too.

Is this really goodbye for Hook? If so, I feel so sorry for Emma. All the men she's ever fallen in love with have ended up dead.

The preview for next week teased that someone will die. I can't help think it's Zelena. Just a hunch.

I wouldn't "mind" it being Zelena, but why would that death break Storybrook's heart?

Surprise to see us leaving the underworld with so many episodes left... and doubly surprised to see Hook, the entire reason they went in the first place, staying behind... though something tells me they'll get him back by defeating Hades.

We didn't actually see Hook 'move on,' so I assume he will still have a role in the underworld for a while.

I didn't really occur to me how badly all of Emma's relationship's have ended until she was leaving Hook behind.
Since we still have a bit of the season left, I'm assuming they'll be saving Hook, especially if another major character is going to die.
I actually did think Hades was trying to help them, but it still didn't shock me when he betrayed them. He is Hades after all.
I'm not quite sure what to make of Regina and Zelena being all close and sisterly. I understand the returned memories would bring them closer, but you'd still think there'd be at least a bit of animosity after everything they've done to each other. On the other hand, I do like how one of the last things Cora did was reunite her daughters.
Pan's fate was a surprise for me. I was expecting him to also get some kind of redemption, or at least reconciliation between him and Rumple.
You know they must be struggling to come up with flashback stories when they start giving us stories about articles of clothing.

I'm not quite sure what to make of Regina and Zelena being all close and sisterly. I understand the returned memories would bring them closer, but you'd still think there'd be at least a bit of animosity after everything they've done to each other. On the other hand, I do like how one of the last things Cora did was reunite her daughters.

I get that impression too, but they are flesh and blood, and maybe it's easier for them to forgive and forget. Cora was instrumental in getting them to make up because she was the one responsible for destroying her daughters' lives. She was repentant and was able to move on. On the other hand, we don't know if Zelena has given up her wicked ways. As long as she poses a threat to Regina or anyone in Storybrooke, Regina won't hesitate to stop her.
