Once Upon A Time Season 5 Discussion Thread -Spoilers

Wow!

Didn't expect that to be the next "land" they would be exploring, but it does explain how they could get certain guest stars to come back next March.

Rumple is SUCH a weasel! :klingon:

Can't wait for spring to come. :bolian:

I was a mite disappointed with this episode. After the hugely amazing cliffhanger of an army of Dark Ones descending on the town.... they promptly disappear until the end of the episode and don't do anything. :wtf: And when they finally do appear, Hook gets rid of them before they do anything :wtf:

And good lord, how many times now has Rumple been good then gone bad again? It's just repeating the same beats over and over.

And it was hard to get teary eyed over Hook "dying" after we just saw a bunch of people come OUT of the Underworld and that's clearly what the second half of the season is going to be about.

I was surprised that Hook killed daddy, though.

I had the same thought about Liam II.
I was a little disappointed in the Dark Ones too, but I think this one was really more about them trying to save themselves from going to The Underworld, rather than dealing with The Dark Ones.
So are all of the people from Camelot and Merida still hanging around Storybrooke and the woods? I was expecting more resolution with them in this one.
I was not expecting the big twist with Rumple at the end. I don't mind him going bad again. We know he had always been obsessed with power, so if he has an opportunity to take it he will, even if he is a "good" guy at the time.
Even though I was surprised by exactly how it played out, I'm not to surprised that Rumple ended up the Dark One again. I wasn't expecting them to actually get rid of the Dark One forever.

Wow. These winter hiatuses suck. It's as bad as waiting throughout the summer for a new season.

Anyway, who would've thought Hook had daddy issues? And I don't understand how he went from wanting revenge on his father to forgiving him to killing him and vowing that he would like to be a good man after that. I guess his past was more complicated than I thought.

I didn't see the magic loophole coming at all, but it wasn't surprising for a devious man like Rumple to exploit it. Did anyone ever talk about it before? Originally, Dark Emma wanted to sacrifice Zelena to purge the Darkness out of her and Hook. I don't recall anyone ever saying the Darkness could be transferred or returned to another vessel. From a writing standpoint, I understand the need for Rumple to become a villain once again. Every story needs one, and he's the show's constant bad guy. I wonder if we'll see Hades in the future.

I feel bad for Belle being tricked by trick by Gold again. Hopefully one day he'll either give up being the Dark One altogether or Belle wise up and kicks his ass to the curb.

I'm guessing that we haven't seen the last of Arthur and company because there's no real resolution for those characters at the moment. I think it'll be awhile before we get back to them.

Any reason Emma would bring her whole family with her to the underworld, after just fighting all episode to prevent them from...going to the underworld? Other than for TV reasons, and needing enough characters to be together to show things, that is? Made way more sense as a solo quest, and then I watch everyone else wander in with her...

Yeah, I was also confused by that. Why is the entire family going into hell? :wtf: Guess Snow White isn't too concerned with leaving her baby behind :p

They filmed a scene that was cut from last nights episode that was meant to conclude the Camelot story.

Just a few days ago Amy Manson (Merida) post an excited tweet about her character's role in the fall finale that obviously wasn't in the actual episode.

Henry says
goodbye to Violet as Merida leads the Camelot characters through a portal (presumably back to Camelot). Arthur was in handcuffs. Regina was also there (probably to make sure that everything went down smoothly).

Hopefully, they will include this scene in a future episode or perhaps the showrunners have decided they want Merida and the Camelot characters to stay in Storybrooke so they can be used in a future story arc.

They're likely to save it for a "Previously, on Once Upon a Time..." bit to re-introduce the characters for a later story and nobody is going to know what the hell they're talking about. The farther they go into the Underworld storyline in the next season half, the more they'll drift from a meaningful context for those other Camelot characters and Merida. NuBSG did that shit all the time, with the editors forgetting that some scenes they were referring to never made it to the final cut. I'm sure it was always accidental, but no less infuriating when it happens.

That is weird. I wonder if they'll just save it for later, or if they have plans for the characters.
I thought that after so much of the half-season being focused on them, it was a weird that the Camelot characters and Merida didn't even get a mention in the finale, now I guess we know why.

To tell the truth, I had totally forgotten about Merida and the Camelot gang when watching the finale.

There was the one scene when Hook knocked her out and kept her from shooting Emma with the arrow and the montage scenes of the "purple curse" approaching all the characters but, yeah, not much there otherwise.

I didn't care much for Merida's character; she was too feisty and always ready to shoot people who got in her way. That's no hero to me. Arthur, on the other hand, was a villain that needed closure.

Same with me, in fact i didn't even think about them until I saw this thread. I expected I guess to see them depart after mid season break or thought Arthur would have a scheme up his sleeve while our heroes were in the underworld.

I was waiting all episode for Arthur or someone from the Camelot crew to show up and screw the heroes over somehow

The ending for this episode reminded me of when everyone left Storybrooke to rescue Henry from Peter Pan. They left Belle behind that time as well. Maybe they'll do an episode set in just in Storybrooke like they did in the Neverland arc.
