Once Upon A Time Season 4

I'd only seen about 5 minutes of it while on holiday. When I got back, they'd finished season 2 here (and cancelled it).

Managed to get hold of it and binge watched the first three seasons. Yeah, I may have gotten myself hooked.

I thought there was word about Rebecca Mader reprising her role as the Wicked Witch. When I saw the trailer from last week, I thought for sure that she was going to be in last night's episode. It turned out to be Maleficent in regular clothes.

I had a hard time putting last night's flashback in the Enchanted Forest timeline. So Regina had obviously met Maleficent before she (Regina) became a full-pledged witch. But did that take place before or after she married Snow's father? She did mention King Leopold's name.

I didn't think it was a great idea for Regina to ditch her cell phone after "kidnapping" little Pinocchio. Then again, she didn't realize Rumple was already in Storybrooke.

Yeah, I wasn't real sure about the timeline there either. While I do enjoy the flashback stories, it really is getting hard to try to get any kind of coherent timeline going. I do wonder at times if they might not have been better off going the Arrow route, and giving us a continuous chronoglical flashback story, rather than jumping all around like crazy like they do.
As soon as Hook asked Belle for the dagger I started to suspect it was actually Rumple.
I do have to wonder if Ragina will eventually change sides for real. I do like her as a hero and would rather she stay that way, but I have to wonder if she can keep the evil act up without it stopping being an act.

I would rather see Regina as an antihero than a villain. She's got nothing left to be angry about with Snow and all the Storybrooke denizens.

Rebecca Mader's return is still forthcoming.

I was hoping the dagger was a fake and Belle was leading Rumple on... but alas a fake wouldn't have worked on Pinocchio.

And if it was that easy to bring August back, why didn't he do it before when Tamara was terrorizing Storybook?

Regina isn't going to turn. She has no reason to be "villianesque" anymore and if she just "misses" the thrill of it, she can get her jollies by terrorizing the Queens of Evil.

Speaking of Rumple faking out his partners, why the heck would they trust him again, after what he did back in the Enchanted Forest?

But my biggest question is why Emma didn't hear that big car pull away? Surely she should have jumped up sooner when the GPS on Regina's fun didn't show movement after that V8 roared down the road???

I thought it was interesting how Regina tries to keep Snow's secret, at the same time not "exactly" lying to Emma. Regina knows that Emma can read her like a storybook so she lies by omission rather than commission.

Is there divorce in Storybook? Has Belle filed yet?

Spell of Silence for the car, Spell of Divorce for Belle.

Seeing August return was a nice twist. How many episodes do we have left? I wonder if we'll find the Author this year or if that will be the cliffhanger.

I noticed just this morning that Once Upon A Time is up to date on Netflix (US), up to the most recent episode. Interesting...

I only see seasons 1-3, nothing of this season.

Weird. I just watched S04E15 an hour ago. Maybe it's because I'm using a Canadian account and accessing the american Netflix via DNS?

I really liked this episode featuring Ursula's background. It had a lot of Little Mermaid references - the singing voice, the song at the tavern, her father's hatred for humans, among other things. Hers mirrored Ariel's story from the movie in some ways. I don't know why Ursula hated Hook when it was her father's mistrust of humans that caused her to lose her voice. At least she got her somewhat happy ending.

It was nice to see Ariel and August again.

Yeah, this was good one.
I'm glad we finally got our first backstory episode for one of the Queens of Darkness. I got a kick out of seeing Ernie Hudson, and the girl from season 2 of The Following in the flashbacks.
The voice stuff was a fun little nod to the Little Mermaid.
I'm glad they brought back the adult August.
I was really surprised to see one of the Queens of Darkness turning on the others and leaving so early in the season.

So the first Queen of Darkness is defeated with a happy ending. I wonder if the same will be true of the others-- it seems likely that Emma's childhood friend is Maleficent's kid. Will they all be whittled away with happiness and redemption until we are left with only Rumpy as the Big Bad?

You know, after this episode, Regina (and everybody, really) should be reconsidering their whole situation, because Ursula was a villain who got a fucking happy ending. No Author necessary, apparently. Was the whole motivation for the quest for the Author based on a wrong notion?!

The look on Reginas face when the mole was announced and it was Ursula priceless. It went from 'oh shit' to cautious relief in a heartbeat.

I do agree that finding the Author now seems pointless since it has been demonstrated that you can have a happy ending without him/her. The point was made earlier in the show it is how you go about things which is important.

I do find it interesting that Reginas interpretation of her dream about getting together with Robin and having her evil Queen persona interrupting was so different that what I thought when watching it. It looked to me that the evil queen was attacked but Regina said she felt her other self was protecting Robin. Protecting from what/who? The people or things seen in the Forest was Robin and new-and-improved Regina...

I assumed she meant from herself.
I honestly didn't even realize that Usula got her happy ending without The Author. That definitely does raise some questions about the whole quest for The Author, although I doubt they'll abandon it. It's a pretty big unanswered question in the mythology at this point and I find it hard to believe they would just stop without giving us some kind of an answer.

Hook also said that he got his happy ending, so it does seem that the Author is not omnipotent. Although he or she is currently imprisoned, so that may make a difference. But the fact that the new page showed up in the library indicates that he or she may not be completely powerless either.
