Once Upon A Time - Season 2 Thread

He's pretty much the catalyst (either directly or indirectly) for everyone's story.

He kind of has to be: he seems to be the primary (given his past history with Regina and Cora perhaps the only) conduit of magic into fairyland and by definition all of the characters have magic either in their lives or their backstory. That makes it harder to exclude him from those stories than to include him.

As long as he's not the Little Mermaid.... :wtf:

Thus far, Rumple's been directly connected to 4 other characters' backstories: Cinderella; Belle; Hook; and Regina. When you're dealing with a series that has, to date, featured 11 main characters and a host of major recurring characters, that is a mere 'drop in the bucket'.

I can't remember. Was he connected to Jiminy Cricket, too?

It was also revealed that he taught Cora magic, and they clearly have a history that has yet to be spelled out.

Yea he's directly related to Jiminy's backstory. Jiminy's parents were thieves who travelled as puppeteers and had Jiminy steal purses during the performances. Jiminy wanted out and went to Rumple who gave him a potion to use on his parents, but his parents sold it as a 'cure' for a plague to a young couple and it turned them into wooden puppets leaving behind a son(Gepetto).
The mention of The Little Mermaid reminds me that we already know he will be connected to Ariel as well. In Skin Deep Regina comes to him for help with a situation involving a certain mermaid.

So does that mean Regina is also Ursula?

Nah, that would be Mr. Gold, considering the deal Ariel makes with her. ;)
Yeah, that was my thought as well. I think now that we've seen Aurora, Mulan, and Hook Ariel's introduction is the thing I am most looking forward to. I really like mermaids and I am very curious to see OUAT's take on them.

Yup, I'm looking forward to their Mermaid Interpretation, too.

BTW, who is Aurora, I don't recognize her yet? What story does she stem from? I personally thought that was one of Ariel's Sister's names, when I read she was going to be a character :alienblush:

She's Sleeping Beauty. In the season premier we first meet her when Phillip wakes her up from her sleep. Her name comes from the Disney movie and the ballet.

Ah, Slapt upside the head again, from not having seen the movie :alienblush:

I think Ariel is rumored to appear this year and Aladdin/Jafar likely means Jasmine would appear as well so that's 2 more princesses to add to the "Disney Princess" list.

I would assume Rapunzel appears at some point as well if not this season.

Oh, I didn't really put two and two together there. Although I was talking more about the events of the story itself.

What no discussion of episode 5? I really liked Whales story and getting more info on Regina an how she was taught magic.

The curse of open-ended serialization is starting to hit. None of the story lines have any inner integrity anymore and they are more or less randomly replaced. Plus, characters are being rewritten, with redemption on hand for both Gold and Regina. Except of course, having them be evil gives conflict (aka melodrama) to the storylines, so one or more will be rewritten as evil again, I expect.

But you know how serials are, they get you hooked on some characters and it takes will power to stop getting your fix.

Really enjoyed this episode. I did not expect Wale's identity until the preview (which made it way to obvious IMO). I think it would have been more fun if I didn't know as soon as I saw the preview at the end of last week's episode. I thought we got some pretty good progress on all of the stories.
Am I the only one who's first thought when they mentioned a enchanted compass was Pirates of the Caribbean?

Anybody catch Hatter's quip about "off to see the wizard" during the episode?

Well, we did see in season one elements for both characters that could lead to redemption, so I wouldn't call them being "rewritten".
