Once Upon a Time - gasp! a fantasy series that might last?

OUAT needs to up the complexity of its premise and world-building significantly. Two episodes in and it is already wearing out.

You can't build an entire season around Emma and the Mayor glaring at each other while sticking in some flashbacks to Far Far Away.

Well you can...but it will get boring real fast.

yeah, I've been thinking the same thing after watch the first two episodes. It's going to get a little bit thin on plot once you take away the fairy tale flashbacks.

Unless it's just going to be soap opera-ish "Emma works her way into town's heart, her relationships," etc. Still, maybe they have an interesting storyline in mind.

At least it's not a tired premise. I'd like to see it do well.

My thoughts exactly. Without the flashbacks, it's basically Desperate Housewives. Without the sex.

And without a compelling cast.

Yeah. I hate the modern day stuff.

I think the frustration that will happen soon: We, as the audience, KNOW what the little annoying kid is saying is TRUE, how long are we going to wait for the REST of the characters to catch up? I think the conceit will get old fast. Especially if the lead character keeps not believing.

I would rather it succeed on execution rather just on the premise alone.

I'm really enjoying it so far, and honestly, the only real complaint I have so far, is that I wish something would convince Emma that Henry is telling the truth. She does seem to be starting to think something weird is going on, so hopefully that'll be enough to eventually convince her.

I don’t want Emma to have a zealous conversion without good cause, though.

Was nice to see Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold clearly imply that he damn well remembered. “Please.” The look on Regina’s face was pretty good.

Yeah, that was great. And IMO it hints at what good be a very interesting conflict between Regina and Gold/Rumplesiltskin.
