Once Upon a Time (ABC) - 1x02 till the bitter end

^And remember, it's not just a fantasy world, it's a fairy tale world. So yeah, I give it lots of slack for the dialog.

Well since the difference is so noticeable I think it's intentional. The writers want the fairy tale world to sound different. And they've succeeded at doing that.

I really didn't buy Snow's 180 because Charming didn't tell his wife the full truth - if he had, would the townspeople have been less judgmental? I doubt it. The writers had her break up with Charming because they needed to extend the angst, not because it made any damn sense at all. She came off as a flake. Oh thanks for leaving your wife, now I'm breaking up with you because you didn't do it exactly like I wanted. Jesus.

I agree the back and forth is getting a bit old, but I DO think Mary's reaction in this episode felt completely justified and real.

I don't think most people would want to start a relationship with a giant cloud like that hanging over it. Not to mention the fact David's weasely behavior lately makes him seem a LOT less appealing.

Just watched the last 2 episodes. Saddly i watched them out of order cause i thought i already watched Beauty and the Best (ep 12).

Belle is freaking hot, and hopeing to see more of her. This was probably the best episode yet of the whole series.

I really enjoy Gold vs Queen, and actually cheering for Gold. Wonder what did happen to his little boy.

Got to say too that this show is going places i didnt think it would when i started watching it. Figured it be just bout Emma going around and getting people to realize they are fairy tale characters etc.

Now episode 13 i liked it too and that lady of the lake, thought she would be the Excalibur chick.

Hoping when season is over someone can take all the fairytale footage and put them all together in order so we can watch them.

I thought something similar when Lost was on; that somebody could edit together all of the individual characters' flashbacks into separate stories. It's an interesting idea.

Last night's episode... What a sad one indeed. Poor Dreamy. And even in the real world, Astrid/Nova was still out of reach. When Dreamy was first hatched, I thought the guy said "Welcome to the world Worf."

I checked Amy Acker's IMDb profile and saw that she was also on Grimm.

I was not jazzed by the Charming/Snow story last week, but I enjoyed Dreamy/Grumpy/Leroy's story with Nova/Astrid.

I also loved Snow/Mary Margaret and Grumpy/Leroy selling the candles.

Gold still proved to be the highlight of the ep, bartering with Lerory.

Not a bad episode, but gosh.... Did they only spend $5 on the fairy costumes? It looked like Halloween leftovers.

There also seems to be a bit of an inconsistency when it comes to fairy size - unless I missed something. In some scenes they are tiny, and in others they are not.

They're magic fairies, they can be whatever size they want!

Dwarves are hatched in eggs? That's a new one on me...very weird.

Mr. Gold doesn't like the nuns. Rumple had issues with fairies so the nuns must be fairies in Fairy Tale Land.

It's easy to see why Grumpy fell in love with Nova...Amy Acker looked amazingly beautiful as a fairy.

I noticed that Eion Bailey's name is listed with the series regulars now instead of as a guest star.

Henry was completely absent.

Hatched in eggs fully clothed and as an adult with full intelligence and motor skills! Apparently as a cheap form of labor too. :p

Anyone notice Eion Bailey's name got moved to the main credits?

The scary thing is that Amy has probably doubled in weight since her days on Angel.

It's finally getting to the point that I'm not disgusted by myself for for craving a woman with what appears to be an eating disorder.

maybe it's just her and not what she looks like?

Double her weight again and see if that changes my overpowering lust.

I really liked last night's ep! Always a pleasure to see Amy Acker (looking gorgeous as always!) and the Dreamy/Nova story was sad, if not unexpected. I honestly didn't notice the lack of Henry, nor particularly mind, heh.

Also, because I bitched about Belle before, if that was actually her in the tavern that told Dreamy to go for it I really liked her in this one. What changed?

I'm not sure if this is just an accident, or if it's just a story the writers felt they could get away with not doing the obvious happy ending, or if this is just the clearest expression so far of what the series is really about.

In the fairy tale world, Dreamy becomes Grumpy (and Stealthy gets killed:scream:.) In Storybrooke as its being liberated by Operation Cobra, Leroy still doesn't get the girl but he gets a happy memory, and doesn't become Grumpy. Playing with the fairy tale formulas is entertaining (dwarfs hatch from eggs:guffaw:,) but in this episode the real meat is deconstructing fairy tale endings in real life.

The obstacles in David's and Mary Margaret's way may just be the usual tendency of open-ended serials to repeat the good stories (David and Mary Margaret find each other.) Or it may be true love exists, but it's work.

Part of the problem with fairy tale endings is not the "happily" but the "ever after." Characters choosing the satisfactions of reality don't make so much sense when death is so ambiguous in fairy tale land. Fairy tales are a great gig if you're one of the chosen few!

PS Saturday Night Live writing staff has some Once Upon a Time fans. They did an homage called Real Housewives of Disney World! Funny and useful. After seeing that I don't need to see any other Real Housewives shows.

I'm a big fan of both Lee Arenberg, and Amy Acker so I really enjoyed the episode. I honestly never thought we'd get an episode focused on one of the dwarves, but I'm glad we did. I have to admit the Storybrooke story is finally starting to grow on me, I'm actually finding myself caring about it as much as the Fairy Tale land stories.

Amy Acker! :adore:

This was a great episode, with some cute background information on the dwarves. I suspect that Grumpy and Nova are destined to be together, since it was her accidental spilling of fairy dust that gave him the ability to love (and what jerk created the dwarves without the ability to love?). Also, the last time we saw Grumpy, Snow White was living in his house and had just taken the potion of forgetfulness-- very likely Nova will be the way out of that.

He can't love. He can only remember dreaming of love. They were doomed.

But then we're all doomed out here, and we in the real world do fine without any happy ever afters.
