Once Upon a Time (ABC) - 1x02 till the bitter end

He might not be fully aware that all he has to do is say "please" - he probably just chalks it up to his innate abilities to make things go his way.

Snow White and the Prince believed he could see the future, so maybe it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy (he saw what he would say and told the Queen she has to grant his requests when he says it)?
Of course, the question is if he could actually see the future. When he told Snow White what would happen and how she could save her daughter, he could have known what would happen because he gave the Evil Queen the curse. Was there any other instance where he "saw" into the future and knew something he couldn't have known otherwise?

Bill Willingham on "Fables" vs "Once Upon A Time"

Bottom line is he doesn't believe they ripped off Fables and he likes the show. Hope that puts this to rest. For like 5 minutes on the internet.

The respective corporate lawyers can hash it out on their own time. I have no dog in that fight.

This is bad. I'm getting attached enough to start discussing a show again. This obviously spells doom for its future. It's been a long time since I've really invested in a show - been burned too many times.

Don't worry, this one's a keeper! Strong ratings. :bolian:

One small hypothesis:

Emma = Mother
Swan = Goose

How it fits, I don't know, but...

"Emma Swan" = "I'm a Swan." I'm going with The Ugly Duckling theory, not that she's ugly, but she's going to embark on some transformative experience.

I've never thought much of her as a piece of meat, so it doesn't matter what bows and ribbons you put on her to make the girl look like a princess, she's still going to look basically the same because we know her too well after all those years on house.

Although, every one else is a finished result and we see their transformation to these complete individuals in flashback.

So, maybe, ugly duckling turns into Swan? But wouldn't her ability to break the spell be centred on the fact that she's more real than the rest of them, ergo her will to become fairy tale and give up the real world would be more powerful than anyone elses? Which would explain why "someone" made sure he had a shitty life.

Although living outside of Storybook, wouldn't she have mostly escaped these metaphors?

But raised by by the Swan Family, Billionaire socialites from Beverly Hills?

Anyone else think they were watching "Highlander" in the first minutes of tonight's episode?

Yeah, that was very similar to the Kurgen. Then later in the episode they were channeling Wesley from Princess Bride.

totally and after he supposedly killed the bad guy I was wait for there can be only one.:lol:

not bad next week we get to find out who the sherrif is.

I forget which story it is but there is a fairy tail where a king locks a girl away and is force to turn straw into gold. does anyone know that one?

Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, but that's the story of Rumpelstiltskin.

I have wonder how many Kingdoms are there in "Storybookland"? Was Regina some sort of High Queen who ruled over all or just one of several rulers?

So there are:

Regina
King George (Charming's dad)
Cinderella's father in law
King Midas

anymore?

Well, fortunately you've picked the right show this time (that's not a snark - I've been burned so many times that OUAT is literally the only network show I'm bothering to watch this year). The show is a bona fide hit, appears to be pushing both the Lost and Desperate Housewives buttons (the latter because people are actively looking for a replacement; same goes for Lost, too, now I think of it), and it's getting major league ratings. And last I heard it's in the NCIS "sure thing" category for renewal for a second season.

Of course we've been down this road before with a little thing called Heroes. In other words the first year might be fantastic and then the audience may abandon it in year 2. But for now I wouldn't be worried about the show being "doomed". Barring a collapse in its ratings after the midseason break, I don't think it's going anywhere just yet.

Midas said that the (many?) kingdoms could only be unified under a strong figure head like Charming.

So lots more if wee don';t even count all the gangs of fairy creatures out there that there's a troll King and Dwarf King and... Does anyone feel let down that that Dragon didn't talk? Are Dragons bad arses or vermin?

I think this show will hold more of it's female audience than Heroes ever could.

If you mean the dvd covers are going to be used as masturbatorial aids and props, then yes I agree with you.

Once Upon a time ticks all the genre boxes, for what we are "supposed" to like, if we take a step back, it's really not the best TV in the world.

Another Lost Easter Egg tonight: Emma and Mary Margaret drink MacCutcheon whisky. And of course Alan Dale played Charles Widmore on Lost (and he loved to drink MacCutcheon whisky) and he was on tonight.

Based on next the promo for next week I think is the Sheriff's fairy tale identity is
the Huntsman

While right now it seems that the Evil Queen is the main villain I think the ultimate villain who needs to be defeated is Rumpelstiltskin. That guy was screwing around with everyone's lives from the beginning.

Someone outted the huntsman 6 pages back.

You see the thing is, Regina is the hero now.

She's spent 30 years as hero and leader of these people and she likes it.

After being the hero for that long, being loved and celebrated for her benevolence and altruism, like fuck going back to being shat on as the villain!

Regina is a woman of the people, not some hag in a hovel on the outskirts fending off plots of destruction now and then...

Would you rather be Papa Smurf or Gargamel?

I think that rather than go fight a dragon to save the farm, the loser twin brother (the winner got to be the prince, right?) should have tried planting some crops. If they had a harvest to sell, the place might have been able to pay for itself.

Which is all a cack-handed way of saying they are really, really chintzy with the sets. And extras too. There are few enough people this could be an indie production. With interns and hangers on, don't all indie productions have a behind the camera/in front of the camera population ratio of, say, ten to one?

Watching the show religiously, with the flashbacks by far the most interesting part. David's reconciliation with Katherine flashed me back to college days watching All My Children.

I'm actually really enjoying this show, which is surprising. I watched the first episode just out of curiosity expecting it to be awful but its won me over. Still feels a little like a guilty pleasure but I love the mystery aspect of it, trying to work out who people really are and how their stories fit together. Sure its cheesy but I'm not adverse to a little bit of cheese now and then and I think the people making it know that its cheesy which makes all the difference sometimes.

Are there any theories on who the Doctor is?
