Once Upon a Time (ABC) - 1x02 till the bitter end

If this show goes on long enough, I'd like to see some non-Western mythology woven into the story, too. Eventually they're going to have to start broadening the material...

Heard that Belle is going to show up at some point too, so I guess that means there will be a Beast as well.

Man, I'm really going to have to start boning up on my Disney movies if this keeps up. lol
According to the story I read about Belle's introduction, they're also going to bring in the Disney created character Gaston. So I guess this actually is based more on the Disney versions of the story than I originally thought.

I haven't had the opportunity to see the latest episode yet, but it seems fairly clear to me that the sheriff is the Huntsman.

Only by name at any rate. The character of Gaston has been a part of the story for some time, though under different names. He was called Avernant in a French version of the story from as early as the 1940s.

I had an overwhelming urge to beat up Ella and her boyfriend/prince husband in both timelines.

All of those gals have raging daddy issues don't they?

I am loving Mr. Gold.

Caught all three of the first episodes over the weekend (And the first two of Grimm). Liking "The LOST Desperate Fairy Tales" better than Grimm at this point.

I'm liking the characters and the story pretty well on Once Upon a Time, and yea, Robert Carlyle has been awesome so far, and the Mayor is quite the piece of work.

Grimm's Lead is good looking, but, he's just so "Scott Bakula" bland, I'm not sure even great acting on his part is going to make the show exciting. I do like the Blutbod, and Sasha Roiz' character looks promising.

Jennifer Morrison's character, the kid, as well as the princess/teacher are all so bland, while Mr. Gold and the evil queen are interesting.

It's kind of a problem when your villains are so much more interesting, better characters than your heroes. It doesn't have to be that way.

Snow White was pretty much a warrior princess in the fantasy world compared to now. I think making everyone who was good in the fantasy world weaker in the real world was part of the curse. It's intentional.

Thought this latest episode was terrific. The Cinderella story was well handled (although they definitely could have found a cuter actress), and Rumpelstiltskin was fun as hell to watch too. Especially loved seeing him blow up the fairy god mother. lol

And I got my answer as to whether they can leave the town or not. Looks like strange accidents befall them anytime they get close to the edge.

I don't find them bland at all. Morrison has a nicely sarcastic edge to her (which really makes her stand out in a town like that), and Goodwin's Snow White/teacher seems pretty rich and interesting as well.

The kid is a tad annoying, but well... he's a kid. That kind of goes with the territory.

Heck, I find the Queen more annoying than the good characters. So far the only reason I'm interested in her is because of the unexplained backstory she has with Snow White and Charming.

She is a bit one-dimensionally evil at the moment, but I expect she'll become more complex as the show goes on.

Or will the writers try to suggest the fairytale world is the REAL one, and ours is the fake?
And everyone is actually a fairytale character, all over the world? :D Heh heh, I like that.

I dibs Rapunzel from Tangled!!! :p

I Call Shrek!

I like the way they're painting her: On the surface one-dimensionally eveil, but plenty of depth, and I definitely want to know what Snow did to her to start all this off. It would be kinda nice if whatever it was was done to deliberately hurt the Queen.

good episode this week. now have we seen pinochio yet?
all so what is with rumpelstilskin and wanting the first born children for his deals, what does he do with them any way?
and we got a 2 week break. :scream::scream::scream::scream:

I love the way this show rewrites fairy tales in interesting and surprising ways. :rommie: I don't find Emma Swan bland at all - Jennifer Morrison is giving the character a fun, sardonic edge.

I think he was seen as a real boy in the first episode during the council scene in the Fairy World.

Re the newest episode: I found it surprising that Rumpelstilskin just told Cinderella his name, since his whole story revolves around that (and they also said that names have power, when he wanted to know the name of Snow White's child). But then, he already seems to be quite infamous in the Fairy World, so I'm interested to see how the writers changed his fairy tale.

Rating still strong, in case anyone was wondering.

ABC’s Once Upon A Time continued its impressive freshman run last night, posting a 3.8/9 in adults 18-49. That was up a tenth from the fairytale drama’s fast national the previous week (flat with the national) and the highest demo mark for any non-sports program last night. Even more impressive, Once Upon A Time accomplished that with the lowest-rated Sunday broadcast program as its lead-in, America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.7/4, up 13% from its most recent episode three weeks ago).

I love it. I bought the brother's grimm on my nook and have started reading fabels on comixology.

That's fortunate because fairy tale princes are not known for their length.

That's what the Princess and the Pea was all about. The Prince needed a wife who would notice the intrusion of something tiny yet act like it was the end of the world.

Yeah I gave that Fables comic a try, since I've been hearing a lot about it lately, but it just didn't grab me like I was hoping it would.

It's got all the same characters, but they feel so gritty and hard-edged and modern that they don't really feel like fairy tale characters at all.

That kind of ironic approach was fun in the Buffy/Angel days, but right now I think I prefer the more magical and whimsical approach of Once.
