If this show goes on long enough, I'd like to see some non-Western mythology woven into the story, too. Eventually they're going to have to start broadening the material...

According to the story I read about Belle's introduction, they're also going to bring in the Disney created character Gaston. So I guess this actually is based more on the Disney versions of the story than I originally thought.

I haven't had the opportunity to see the latest episode yet, but it seems fairly clear to me that the sheriff is the Huntsman.

Caught all three of the first episodes over the weekend (And the first two of Grimm). Liking "The LOST Desperate Fairy Tales" better than Grimm at this point.
I'm liking the characters and the story pretty well on Once Upon a Time, and yea, Robert Carlyle has been awesome so far, and the Mayor is quite the piece of work.
Grimm's Lead is good looking, but, he's just so "Scott Bakula" bland, I'm not sure even great acting on his part is going to make the show exciting. I do like the Blutbod, and Sasha Roiz' character looks promising.

Jennifer Morrison's character, the kid, as well as the princess/teacher are all so bland, while Mr. Gold and the evil queen are interesting.
It's kind of a problem when your villains are so much more interesting, better characters than your heroes. It doesn't have to be that way.

Thought this latest episode was terrific. The Cinderella story was well handled (although they definitely could have found a cuter actress), and Rumpelstiltskin was fun as hell to watch too. Especially loved seeing him blow up the fairy god mother. lol
And I got my answer as to whether they can leave the town or not. Looks like strange accidents befall them anytime they get close to the edge.
I don't find them bland at all. Morrison has a nicely sarcastic edge to her (which really makes her stand out in a town like that), and Goodwin's Snow White/teacher seems pretty rich and interesting as well.

I love the way this show rewrites fairy tales in interesting and surprising ways.

Re the newest episode: I found it surprising that Rumpelstilskin just told Cinderella his name, since his whole story revolves around that (and they also said that names have power, when he wanted to know the name of Snow White's child). But then, he already seems to be quite infamous in the Fairy World, so I'm interested to see how the writers changed his fairy tale.
The only problem I had with this week's episode was Cinderella's husband. The guy playing him was awful. Very bland.
That's fortunate because fairy tale princes are not known for their length.

Yeah I gave that Fables comic a try, since I've been hearing a lot about it lately, but it just didn't grab me like I was hoping it would.
It's got all the same characters, but they feel so gritty and hard-edged and modern that they don't really feel like fairy tale characters at all.
That kind of ironic approach was fun in the Buffy/Angel days, but right now I think I prefer the more magical and whimsical approach of Once.
