On-line photo storage?

I'm using photobucket but I they have now decided I want to 'mobile upload' and I don't want to and I can't alter it just to take photos from my machine.

Am getting frustrated :klingon:

Is there an easy way of bypassing photobucket settings, I have tried all I can think of. Or can anyone recommend another storage site?

What part of Photobucket are you having trouble with? While they keep bastardizing the interface, you can still just as easily upload a photo from your computer.

It just keep sending me to mobile uploads? And I've tried account settings? :scream:

And have got a flickr account (for some reason my hobby horse has one already ~ I love Friday nights ) but I can't find the stream to attach to TBBS?

Help

And when you explain try thinking that you're talking to your 60 year old granny :)

Yeah. I love PhotoBucket, but their increasingly rigamaroled interface is really starting to get on my nerves. When I first joined, you could just click the giant blue upload button and multi-upload all your pics in seconds, and have the image tags ready after they were processed. From upload to copy paste on the forum it was maybe 5-6 seconds.

Their new interface is a real annoyance, and I don't like how they sort the pictures either. It feels more messy and random. You have to futz around with the settings just to get it back to the way you had it before.

As for alternatives, there's also ImageShack, but to me it's just not as good. As you said, though, uploads via PC are still there. K'ehleyr, did you turn on mobile settings as your default? If you did, go to your account settings (click on your name in the upper right hand corner of the PB main page), choose account settings and then click on mobile settings.

Yep, Flickr is great. What's more is that it's used by more and more professional photographers, as quality isn't reduced when uploading and aren't resized and more or less as-is. Free account is limited to 200 pictures, but a pay account is worth it if you have a lot of high quality pictures to upload.

I have no idea why photobucket wants photos from my phone as it cannot take them so unless I had a particularly 'interesting' Friday night I'm sure I would not have sought that out.
The interface did not have top right hand bit ~ it's all centered, but I just clicked 'help' and it took me back to a page I recognised and allowed me to upload from pc.
But what a rigmarole
Any way done now, and thanks all for help :)

as quality isn't reduced when uploading and aren't resized

Could you clarify what you mean by this please? Does PhotoBucket reduce quality when uploading, or resize in some way, and if so, how?

By default Photobucket will resize larger images to be smaller, although you can change that so it leaves the image alone. Either way there is a max size restriction on filesize (can't remember what it is).

They do. After 1mb in size, PhotoBucket reduces the size and quality as necessary.

Glad to hear it's fixed! I wish they'd go back to their old interface, or at least give one the option of using the old interface. I much prefer it.

I can't get back to it again now :guffaw:.

I give up. I would love it to go back to the old way.

*nostalgic music*

I sell on ebay so i've been using Imageevent since '98. In all those years i can count on one hand how many times i've had a problem with the site. It isn't a free site though....but they haven't had an increase since day one IIRC. It's $24 for the year and i have been very happy with them.

I use Flickr for my "real" photos, but I've increasingly started to use imgur for quick sharing and it's pretty hard to beat them for simplicity.

I still have a Photobucket account, but I rarely use it anymore because of their friggin' automatic censorship. Anything that even vaguely resembles a bare boob or butt gets deleted due to TOS violation.

The internet is practically crawling with image hosting sites. Have you considered using one of the smaller ones like Picasa Web Albums or FastPictures? They don't have all the bells and whistles of Photobucket or ImageShack, but you can have a free account, you can upload and hotlink to images, and you can resize images. That's all I need.

To use my photobucket account I'm immediately on 'mobile photobucket'.
I've now found if I go upload, help, upload, help, upload, help (OMG I am Sheldon) ... it eventually gives up and says 'so you want to upload a photo from your computer?'
There is obviously some guy having great fun at photobucket :pto him.
But kudos for making a boring job fun, by annoying other people

I'm determined to conquer this... it may take some time

Right, exactly. Most sites will resize images using lossy compression, which is fine if you don't care about the quality of your images. Flickr is the only one I know of that doesn't, and I think the biggest size is only limited by what you can shoot and what you upload as.
