On-line photo storage?

Could you clarify what you mean by this please? Does PhotoBucket reduce quality when uploading, or resize in some way, and if so, how?

They do. After 1mb in size, PhotoBucket reduces the size and quality as necessary.

Right, exactly. Most sites will resize images using lossy compression, which is fine if you don't care about the quality of your images. Flickr is the only one I know of that doesn't, and I think the biggest size is only limited by what you can shoot and what you upload as.

Yep. Photobucket's my knockaround image host for things I just want to post in a forum or host an avatar. If I want to use a host for my high quality images, I have a host I pay $2 a month to handle.

Imgur looks and feels tremendously slick. Very nice interface.

I switched to it from Imageshack about a month ago, when Imageshack randomly decided to block alll inline images at another board I read. Half the images on the site suddenly got blocked, and Imageshack never gave anyone a reason why. I suspect they just didn't like the amount of bandwith used. Anyway, I switched to Imgur, and it's a lot nicer.

The only problem on the horizon is that with the free account, after 225 uploaded images, the older images get hidden from your panel. They're still in your account, and show up, but you can't find them in your interface. Once I hit that limit, I guess I'll have to think about upgrading to their pro service (which is very cheap anyway) because the whole interface is so pleasant to use.

That's pretty much the same behavior with Flickr. Didn't take me long to go over 200 pictures, which is Flickr's max on a free account, but it's cheap and worth it for a pay account. Imgur sounds very similar in concept.

I've only used villagephotos (which disappeared one day, ack), photobucket and flickr. Flickr is so much better than photobucket, I love it. I paid for the premium membership, well worth it.

When I first joined, I used Digikitten. Then I switched to Photobucket back in 2004.

I use Google Picasa

The imagehost I use isn't perfect (you can't sort pictures into albums, the image directory is frankly pants, and I think you have to be with them for a while before your total filesize allowance climbs above the measly one you get when you sign up), but it's extremely reliable and doesn't compress your images. You can upload without sign up, too. And it's free.

Very limited in features compared to other hosts, but it has virtually no downtime and I've never encountered any sort of monthly bandwidth or individual filesize allowance. It's never let me down yet.

I used to use photobucket, but don't like the interface for the site and how it can take to upload an image. I generally don't post many images here or elsewhere, but when I do, I can always put a link to a directory on Facebook.

I like Flickr because they have the deal with Getty Images so you can use it to sell pictures. Through it I have had my pictures feature in two magazines. I am also on Photobucket without any interest.
