OMG!!! Zachary Quinto is ...

Really, who cares? Yeah, I get it, this sort of thing could have ruined someone's career in the not-so-distant past, so it's great that someone can openly admit who they are without fear of consequences, hoo-ray for progress and all that fun stuff. But making a big deal over someone being gay to the point of making news headlines about it? Is that really necessary? Why not have headlines announcing that Zoe Saldana is black, John Cho is Asian, Simon Pegg is British, and that Mickey Mouse is a mouse?

I honestly have never thought about his sexual orientation until now. I have to say I like the offhand way he did it though.

Didn't know, don't care... But could there be a Spock Sulu romance brewing?

I wonder what this will do for the Pon Farr scene...Oh my!

And seriously, I don't give two butter baked shits what you do behind closed doors. I'm about as interested in his sex life as you are in mine.

Patrick Stewart still has played a gay character more convincingly, with every gay stereotype there is on both the Frasier TV show and on film than any of the real gay people who've been actors on Trek. ;)

I was surprised by this for some reason but then I thought about it and realized how obvious it should have been.

I never even thought about it before, but good for him for coming out; it will help those bullied kids realize that they do have a future ahead of them, hopefully.

Yep. Good on him. That's why he did it.

To those who are saying, who cares... it's for those gay kids who are getting the shit kicked out of them... they care.

People really need to stop using these juvenile headlines full of exclamation marks and ellipses which tell us next to nothing about the subjects of the threads.

People keep saying "Everyone knows already" or "it's no secret", well, I disagree. I didn't know. Why don't you people fill me in on these things? Help a guy out once in a while?!

Ah well, anyway, I adore Zach Quinto, loved his characterization of Spock, can't wait to see him in the next movie, and I think he's adorable. :adore:

I didn't "know" but at the same time I didn't care. It's been a long time since I really, rigidly, considered gender roles or stereotypes.

He's out as a homosexual.

So what, it shouldn't be considered any different than if he was out as a heterosexual.

The only reason this is noteworthy is because heterosexuality is still considered the "default" orientation. I don't know if that will ever change (probably not), but at some point a person needs to declare themselves one or the other (or both) in order to form a lasting relationship.
