OMG!!! Zachary Quinto is ...

So what?

It's 2011, I think as a society we should be well beyond any kind of shock or reaction whatsoever when an actor comes out.

I don't care that he's gay, not any more or less than I care that whoever actor is straight.

Really, society, I think it's well past time we stop caring what gender someone likes to fuck.

Zachary Quinto is gay? Good for him. I think no less nor no more of him.

It's sad that our culture still makes such a big deal about the sexual orientation of celebrities. What's sadder, though, are the circumstances that led Quinto to decide to go public about his — young gay people being bullied about their sexuality to the point where they think suicide is the only option available to them. :(

Side note: Quinto is in the revival of Angels in America? Cool! Awesome play. The HBO TV-movie adaptation is excellent, too.

I could care less about Quinto's orientation, but I suppose this will make the Kirk/Spock slash fanfiction writers just that much happier.

Wow, I haven't been this shocked since I learned that Bruce Willis is white.

Seriously, so he's gay, what difference does it make?

Well "coming out" is a big deal to some people, particulary members of the LGBT community. I'm a heterosexual male and I have no issues with those of a non-heterosexual orientation and strongly believe in equal rights but even then I sometimes question the hooha made when somebody comes out. I suppose you could argue that a person shouldn't need to come out and their potential for any sexual orientation should be accepted from birth, but that's just the times we live in.

Despite the fact that non-heterosexual men and women (and those of the transgendered community) have the same equal rights as heterosexual men and women in many countries, it's still a taboo for some people and it will probably remain that way until people do accept sexual diversity as a cultural norm.
