Up here in New Hampshire's North Country, we just had about 6 inches of powder snow atop about 4-6 inches of powder inches atop about 3 inches of frozen slushy snow. And we are supposed to have much more tomorrow.
It's pretty damn snowy here...looks about like SPOCKED's pics, but I think we might have a couple more inches. I love the gigantic like twenty foot high piles of snow in the big parking lots. I really want to go play king of the mountain!
On the down side though, as a delivery driver, I've had to deal with all the idiots who have no idea how to drive in snow. Some d-bag almost rammed his truck into me yesterday, because apparently he believes that just because he has four-wheel-drive he can't slide when he turns into the lane right next to mine. I had to hit the brakes and steer into a snowbank to avoid him.
Once a couple of years ago my boyfriend and I headed up to the nearest Indian casino for the night, which was at only about 1000 feet, so we weren't expecting snow. But we got there and there was snow all over the place. My boyfriend had lived near the casino all his life and it had never snowed there that he remembered. My boyfriend and I had played in snow before on vacations up to the mountains, but neither of us had been anywhere while it was actually snowing. It was so cool.
But the problem was, neither of us had driven in snow, ever. And the road to the casino was out in the middle of nowhere, a dark and windy road that was difficult to drive even in nice weather in the daytime. So we were going really slow, being cautious and trying not to slide around. It was also windy and the wind kept pushing on our small car. It was scary! But there were several cars behind us who obviously thought we were going too slow, so they started honking and passing us as fast as they could. They were driving pretty dangerously. And then of course down the road we saw a couple of these cars stuck in snowbanks on the side of the road. I almost felt bad. I don't care how fast they wanted to get to the casino, we were like new drivers out there and weren't going to risk our lives for those jackasses.
According to the Globe and Mail, we've gotten between 30 and 50 centimetres in Ontario this weekend (that's 12-20 inches). I haven't been able to find specific numbers for Toronto, yet - Environment Canada only has data up until last Wednesday on their website. However, the Globe also reports that yesterday, there was a 50-car pileup on the highway that runs east-west through the city.
This afternoon, I was waiting for a bus up the street. One block to the west, there's a major intersection - at times, I couldn't see the stoplights. Not just the housing that the lights are in - the lights themselves.
I'm hoping that my boss has set up my remote access so that I can work from home tomorrow. (He was supposed to on Friday, but hadn't - so I went to the office. It took me a little over two hours to get to work, and 2.5 to get home.)
