Old-School "Face in Space" Titles Returning!

Which doesn't make him, or those others, correct at all. What I object to is when opinons such as those are presented as hard fact rather than opinion.
I would object to that too, if I saw it happen. What I see far more often, though, is people treating bluntly-stated opinions they don't like as though they were claims of hard fact.

Speak for yourself, chief. I enjoy the 1980s quite a bit. I'm a big fan of The Happiness Patrol. And the Kandyman is fab.

Honestly, I blame folks like you for the fact that it went off the air after 1989.

But really, had it not gone off the air in '85 would we have the great series we have now?

Probably not, and that's a very fair point. However, I still would have liked to see what we would have gotten if there were a Season 27, 28, 29...

I find myself somewhat amused to see that so many people were arguing over me without me ever knowing.

I don't like DW TOS. I don't hate it blindly. I rather enjoyed the Pertwee/Troughton scenes in The Three Doctors, for instance. And William Hartnell's cameo was quite funny, too. "So you're my replacements -- a dandy and a clown!" Episode One of The Mind Robber was wonderfully atmospheric, ending in a surreal destruction of the TARDIS itself into a field of black. Tom Baker's appeal is obvious, as is Elisabeth Sladen's. And I get a kick out of the slashy relationship between the Second Doctor and Jaime.

But while I find that I can enjoy aspects of DW TOS, the whole is often decidedly less than the sum of its parts. Aspects of it can be wonderful, but the entire thing fails to coalesce into an enjoyable, high-quality whole. As wonderful as the actors playing the Doctors are, their companions are as likely to be played by actors with all of the emoting ability of cardboard as they are by talented actresses. And the writing frequently fails to bring things together well -- the pacing is almost always off, the guest characters often stiff and two-dimensional, and the budget is often painfully evident.

To be fair to Doctor Who, I don't like most television programs made before circa 1989 or so -- Star Trek TOS is literally the only hour-long drama I enjoy from the 60s, for instance. I don't think TV drama really began to mature until the 1990s. So I can't say I'm big on older shows in the first place.

But, no, I don't like the original Doctor Who. I'm sorry if that offends anyone, but too bad. I've gone a long time without talking about it, and I find it amusing that when I mention my dislike of it a couple of times after not mentioning it for quite a while, so many people have so visceral a reaction to my dislike. But, hey, whatever.

I'll give this to DW TOS, though:

Ron Grainer and Delia Derbyshire wrote the most awesome TV theme song ever. :bolian:

I think most people would and will respect your honest opinion on your dislike of the older stuff if you weren't so brazen in coming to the immediate defense of the new stuff. You like nuWho? Cool. So do we. You don't like Classic Who? Okay. That's your call and opinion. But, we do like it. And bashing it to lift RTD's era onto a higher pedestal (as you often do to try and make your points) does not help open minds to your way of thinking... ;)

All I'll say is this: Nothing in "NuWho," much as I enjoy the show (as soon as each season is released on DVD, my wife and I marathon through it, and we re-watch it regularly), can approach the brilliance of The War Games, Tomb of the Cybermen or, arguably, The Caves of Androzani.
