In anime, nowadays, you can definitely get away with a whole lot more as far as what content you can show. Then again, like television here, it depends on what channel airs it and what time it's on.is it just me, or have the times and media changed so much that what used to be taboo just isnt that bad anymore?

Basically, things made before I was a fan which translates to about Pre-1997. A whole lot of them hold up as good or decent shows/movies, but not all of them. I've seen those and usually make a decent effort to check out "the classics" but my forite period of time is probabally something more modern like 2000 and onward.
I guess you aren't familiar with the typical anime fan who won't watch anything pre-2000 and considers anything older than 3 years "too old" and refuses to watch it.RAMA said:Wow most of those are definitely not old school.
....to you. Older people have "older schools" so to speak. Some people's definition of Old would be what others call Ancient.Wow most of those are definitely not old school.
Same here, when I heard "old school anime" I thought "Galaxy 999" and Captain Harlock.
And "Space Battleship Yamato" (Star Blazers). Going back even further, "Astro Boy" and "Kimba the White Lion" were part of my after-school viewing in the 1960's.
I'm always surprised there isn't more "Star Blazers" discussion on this board. *shrug*
Same here. And let's not forget 8th Man!
I guess when anime became more popular and mainstream they toned the raciness down for the mass market.
Yea, who's in charge of that idea? Michael Powell, Mary Whitehouse?I guess when anime became more popular and mainstream they toned the raciness down for the mass market.
as to the people who "dont watch anything pre-2000" you dont have a clue where the cartoons you think of as anime came from... there are some gem's that have been re-made since 2000 that would shock you at how much better they are in original forms.
