I can't remember my first episode of it either. It was always around, as far back as I remember. My dad didn't favor it as much as my mom, but we all sat together anyway. I distinctly remember my dad scoffing at it a bit, but my mom loved Spock's character. She started collecting the books later on and has tons of them now.
I remember it seeming very cool, and I loved the uniforms. But it was the stories I remember so fondly and probably what hooked me...the emotions (pain, anger, love) and the humor, the teasing with each other and the way they dealt with differences between species. Traveling around together in space and sharing adventures working for Starfleet was definitely on my list of things to do when I grew up!
