Okay, who will portray Kirk?

I'm with those who says Jensen for Kirk. He has screen presence and he's a pretty good actor. Furthermore, he's relatively unknown and young enough to sign on for a few pictures if the films are any good and I could see him opposite Quinto's Spock (which is also a great choice) and Sinise Bones.

Re: Patrick Flueger (4400) as young James T Kirk??

Zach Gifford - I dont see it. He looks more like he could play an emotionless vulcan facially. No shatner resemblence.

Jensen Ackles doesnt look or sound like Kirk.

You cant just hire on facial type.

The guy has a lot of charisma onscreen.

You have to hire for both talent and appearance; like Quinto. There are much stronger actors than Quinto out there but he has the right balance of being able to act, and Nimoy-ish looks.

I'm sorry but Patrick Fleuger has *emo* written all over his face.
Definitely NOT!KIRK.

They said the same about Brandon Routh based on his early pics; and he was the best choice for Superman.

Watch Patrick on The 4400; he plays a cocky womanizer in alot of the episodes I've seen.

...Kevin Connolly. Eric from Entourage.

Only if Jeremy Piven plays a Klingon. :D

But Connolly is only 5'5", Quinto is nearly a FOOT taller. He'd look like a dwarf. Plus he's a bit on the dweeby looking side to be playing Kirk. But hey if they ever do a live-action Tintin movie, he's the guy.

Well, let's be fair... I don't personally know ANYONE who thought Brandon Routh was anything REMOTELY like "perfect" for Superman. For a guy as tall as he is, he came across as remarkably unimposing. Reeves had an intensity about him which he showed when he was doing Superman that Routh totally lacks.

I don't know any guy who wanted to "be Brandon Routh" as he was in that movie... and I don't know any girl who "wanted to be WITH Brandon Routh" as he was in that movie. If anything... the general reaction to the guy was similar to the reaction that people used to get from Michael Jackson before he totally went over the edge... slightly creepy, but you're just not sure WHY.

Of course this is all anecdotal... your mileage may vary. But saying he was "perfect" is laughable.

THIS is Superman:

No damned "Metrosexual Superman" there... ;)

Here's that full Alex Ross pic in all its glory:

Yeah, this is Superman. Now, you might think it next to impossible to find someone who looks like this and who can act.

It isn't. Donner found Reeves. It's possible to get someone who has that sense of presence and strength that Reeves exuded.

Routh doesn't have an iota of it.

This is a actually a good pair of franchises to compare. Both require a certain appearance requirement, but the appearance is really secondary to the acting, IMO.

Umm no. No offense but I wouldnt want to see the Alex Ross art translated into live action. He looks like an old creepy uncle:

Superman Returns got surprisingly high critical reviews; check its nearly 80% review rate on RT; there was alot of praise for Routh.

Go on SHH, Supermanhomepage.com or Bluetights (the largest collection of \S/ fans on the net); Routh gets a truckload of praise and respect; winning most of the polls.

Your assumptions are WAY off.

FYI. Brandon won a Saturn Award for his Superman performance too. Isnt that a big deal for a newb actor in the Sci-fi genre?

I mean he was ALOT better than the known and unknown actors that were contenders for the role during the various directors and scripts.

Can you seriously name anyone that would be better for it? Having the visual look of the character is a strong part of the casting process. Just as critical as talent.

not suprising i think Routh did a great job

I found a intresting site that names actors who were considered for varios roles but didnt get it. Regarding Superman the movie Robert Redford and Ptrick Wayne were considered for Superman part and in Superman Returns Ian Somerhalder was runner up for Superman part. How acurate this info are is questionable.

p.s i think Chris Evans would be great candidate for Kirk role among others f.e. Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
