Pirates II. Thankfully I had not told anyone else how awesome I thought it would be.

I also was severely disappointed in the Matrix sequels. The second one I hoped suffered from middle-chapter-syndrome so I managed to get good and excited for the 3rd. I should have quit while I was ahead.

You're right...the Matrix sequels suffered from being basically one long movie cut up into two parts. Had the two been meshed and cut shorter, it'd probably been a better movie. I think there was way too much side plot that it took away from the main plot and that was the assualt on Zion.

Pretty much the same thing with the Pirates sequels as well, but not quite as bad. They were a bit more self contained than the Matrix sequels. I mean Matrix 2 just kind of ended with a sudden "to be continued".

Phantom Menace. I told my mom and sister how great and wonderful it was going to be and by the time the word "midichlorians" came up, they were practically gagging.

Pirates II we all expected to rock, so I didn't get blamed for that one.

Spider-man 3. It was a mess from the start.
X-3. No reason needs to be given, everyone knows.
Superman Returns. Worse than X-3 in my eyes.
Matrix Revolutions. Stupid ending to a great story.

And yes, Trek: Nemesis.

X3 was probably the biggest dissapointment I've had as a moviegoer, given how much I enjoyed X2. I can only wonder how the Phoenix Saga might properly have been translated to film with Singer at the helm.

Wild Wild West (I'm a big fan of the TV show) has an almost foolproof formula--that the filmmakers completely threw out for the sake of anti-fun. I'd love to see a straight adaptation of the series someday.

Matrix Reloaded was just a mess. Revolutions was even worse.

Superman III took every element that worked from the previous movies and completely threw them away, and I've totally blocked out IV. Good thing Returns gave the Donner version of Superman a more fitting ending.

The Phantom Menace simply fizzled.

Star Trek: Nemesis: Baird missed the mark entirely, and brought out the worst in most of the actors.

Have you ever seen the preview of a movie, or knew of a movie coming out, and you told your friends "This movie is gonna kick ass---it's gonna be great" then you go see it..with your friends in tow...and it sucks. And they all look at you, and blame you for wasting their time, getting them all UP for this movie...and it sucked....you were wrong!

For me? Yes...
Star Trek Nemesis..I totally bought into that crap they were shoveling before that awful movie came out...I still hear it from the peanut gallery

GODZILLA 1998--I told my friends this movie would be the greatest action, kick ass movie of all time...WRONG...talk about a limp noodle

Alien Resurrection--Oye, I still have headaches from that movie sucking so bad and getting pummled for it by my friends...

There are probably more, but I have blocked them out of my mind due to the "beatings" I got from Nemesis...wink wink..

Funny thing about Nemesis...I couldn't even get anyone to GO see it, but when I showed it to people on DVD they loved it. I'm talking about non-trekkers.

There are few movies that i thought would be great and weren't, I usually have a good idea what they are going to be like. One exception was Johnny Mnemonic. I heard a lot of talk from the director and Willaim Gibson consulted on it, and I thought it was going to bring cyberpunk to the masses. Well it was awful.

Phantom Menace also disappointed me.

I had visceral reactions in the theater during X-men 3 and Star Wars episode 3 :Revenge of the Suck. Also Alien 3. Each of these are so bad they take away from their much superior predecessors.

I'd avoided all spoilers and basically any info at all about the film, wanting to be totally surprised for whatever awaited. The few months before hand I'd rewatched most of the show from beginning to end and really enjoyed it all.
But half way into the film I thought "hmm this is a bit boring", and the second half really didn't do anything to improve on that feeling. And the 'climax' (if one can even call it that) was shite

But then, he once took me to a movie right after a car accident "to calm my nerves", only it was sold out and he bought tickets to Saving Private Ryan instead. So maybe we're even.

My friends actually had to guide my shock-ridden form from the theater as the credits rolled. They tell me I was saying things like, "It can't be over ... that sucked ... no, I mean that really sucked ..."

This hardly ever happens to me. Probably once every 5 years, maybe?

I think it's because I go into EVERY movie expecting a "C-" performance. I can't think of many that actually came in lower than that, so I'm always happy. I'd guess that Matrix 2 is the last one I can remember, honestly.

I'm laughing at most of the movies in this thread. Nemesis? Godzilla? X3? People were actually excited about those films ahead of time? Heh.

Have to add another vote for The Phantom Menace. Though given the hype about it the trailer could have been just C-3P0 pole dancing and I'd have had huge expectations about the film.

I STILL TO THIS DAY hear it from my parents for convincing them to go see that movie. It's harmed me for a long time cause any time I try and convince them to go to a movie they are skeptical about now, they bring that movie up as an excuse to see a different movie. LOL

I actually quite liked Dead Man's Chest (solid and escapist fun) but it was the pompous, diffuse, and overplotted At World's End that nearly killed the PotC franchise for me. X-3 was a step down from X-2 and fairly mediocre, but still watchable. Alien 3 was underrated and better than Resurrection.
