Okay, Ihave to ask

I would have loved Red Barchetta--and it would have been a huge crowd-pleaser where I watched it (I live in Canada)--but I suspect it would have been far less entertaining elsewhere in the world.

They were going for "relatable" not "nerdish."

What bothers me is they couldn't get something more relatable than the Beastie Boys. Sure they were in Guitar Hero and yeah it's a cool song, but weren't they most popular back in the mid-90's?

I thought "Sabotage" was a nice surprise, and since there is a lot of car related hijinx in the video it refreshed that association, which may have been the point.

Didn't JJ say he picked the song because it was a favorite of his?

Well at least they resisted the urge to play Guns 'N Roses, You Could Be Mine. All though for the sake of consistency, it would have been whacked if he popped on some Mozart, Beethoven, or some old Irish crooner belting out I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen. Classic twenty third century chase music.

Well, that's the one thing that always buggled me crazy. Why is everyone (except Riker) likes classical music in the 23rd and 24th century? That's just where I just wasn't following. I'll bet anything that rock music, especially the concept albums of the progressive rock movement, will stand the test of time and be played by full size orchestras 200 years from now.

Did anyone else think that Red Barchetta should have been playing during the Corvette scene?

:D

Definitely.

The parallels were quite noticeable. Perhaps one of the writers is a fan? They could of turned it in to a video with a double exposure of Geddy Lee in a TNG uniform with his mullet and Steinberger bass. Ha ha. Yes, I did think of Red Barchetta for sure.

But, all in all---Sabotage is a sweet tune.

As much as I listen to modern music; I like the concept of "classical only" for Trek. They've done research of the effects of rock music on children's brains; not good. Rock and Roll was probably a product of its time period--perhaps hard for us to see.

I've already heard kids call music from the 90s as "classic".

In the end, Sabaotage is practically a classic rock song. They play it on the same radio stations that play classic rock.

There is no way they would ever use Red Baracheeta, No one knows what that songs is. I hate to break it to you but Rush is pretty G@y...
Ive got a great idea for a band..Lets have both the guitar and the Bass just play rambling riffs all over that make no sense...Rush

RUSH has always been a little disjointed, eccentric, weird and spacy (like Star Trek) Weird but fun for those inclined. IMO, they were listen-able up until about 1981 or so. Even, Jimmy Page had given them praise way back in the early days.

The first album is quite bluesy with the traditional rock riffs and melody that blend together quite easily. They went on to make spacey concept albums with varying degrees of weirdness and listen-ability--but always fun! The 1970s albums still centered around melodic guitar and bass hooks. Somewhere around 1981 or so they just got too weird, too eccentric and too disjointed for my taste and others as well I think. To me the melodies and hooks were gone.

In a way, it mirrors Trek's splinter controversies. The only saving grace is that they've continued to play the old stuff in concert and continued to offer excellent performances. I haven't enjoyed the music since the Moving Pictures LP--except----that short CD they made a few years back of 1960s covers.

Maybe Abram's can produce their next album.

I thought it was pretty obvious that the reason they used Sabotage was that it was an inside joke/reference to Shatner and the infamous recording he did..."Spock, sabotaage the system"...
