Okay, I know I'm asking for trouble, but: recommend comics?

The Lee/Ditko and Lee/Romita Spider-Man (in the first 4-6 Essential collections), good old days when a whole story could be done in one issue, also interesting character changes over the years, at least "The Death of Gwen Stacey."
For Batman: "The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told," "... in the Forties," "The Killing Joke," "A Death in the Family."
Also a fan of 90s era Green Lantern, "Emerald Knights" might make you a fan or confuse you.

Well, alrighty then...this thread seems to have gone off-track. No prob. I'm going to sit down this weekend and read as much of the first volume of "All-Star Superman" that I can. More to come when I've read a bit. -Dan

I love reading the Essential collections from my friendly neighborhood library. However, I would be careful about recommending them to Supernova. The paper quality and the Black and White can be easy turn-offs for people. And those comics should be read in color. I don't know of a place to read the color ones and therefore I am quite happy to read the Essential line. Especially Spidey in his red/blue/black outfit should be read in color.
