Ok. What is the chance of a Picard spinoff?

I do wonder what the endgame is for Jack Crusher/Picard. There were moments where he reminded me of Kirk from the Kelvin timeline and wonder if he'll eventually become captain of a future Enterprise (don't know if it'll be the -G or not.)

Not sure they’ve thought that far ahead. Though on the D-Con Chamber this week Terry mentioned writing a scene at the bar with Seven and Jack (post Picard) where Jack is essentially McCoy to Seven’s Kirk. So maybe not gonna be a captain?

I See. Well I'll tell you this I think if Legacy is ever made, They should have Starfleet bring back Five year missions. I mean after the whole Frontier Day fiasco, Starfleet's reputation would probably be shot to pieces and I think the Enterprise going on a five-year mission to restore Starfleet's good name would be the perfect mission for them. It would also give Legacy a good five seasons or 50 episodes.

Funny you should say that.

Ed Speleers auditioned for Kirk on Strange New Worlds (and lost to Paul Wesley):

We know her first name. She was already way more important by the first episode than three seasons of anyone less than the big 3 of TOS. There's no parallel.
But there does seem to be a parallel of sorts developing.

Seven = Kirk
Jack = McCoy
Raffi – Spock
Sydney = Scotty?
Alandra = Sulu?
Esmar = Uhura?
Ohk = Chekov?
Mura = Chapel?

Even on TOS the five year mission was never anything more than a buzzword. Despite supposedly being on a five year mission to explore the unknown, the Enterprise was still within easy reach of Federation core worlds such as Vulcan and even Earth itself.

But in the event you are suggesting Starfleet should actually send ships out into the great unknown, then I would think in the wake of the Frontier Day incident is exactly the wrong time to send the most advanced ships with the most experienced crews and most decorated Captains out into the unknown. They kind of need to fortify their own borders.

Why can’t the characters stand on their own? Why do we need to have a comparison?
We don't. It's all a stretch because Matalas seems to want Jack to provide the sort of unfiltered advice McCoy gave Kirk. Other than being an XO Raffi is not going to be Spock. She's pretty much the anti-Spock. The rest are all blank spaces with little or no characterization. They can go anywhere with them. The TOS crew aren't a good template for character development.

I know, I know. Stop being critical and just go with it. But if Matalas is going to want us liking Jack, telling us he’s going to be like Bones is not necessarily the best way to do so. Son of Jean-Luc and Beverly, counselor of the Enterprise-G, new favorite of Q, compared to Dr. McCoy just isn’t a way to make me excited about a character. He feels like a retread of everything.

Just let Jack be Jack. Let Ed Speleers discover his own character.

But I know, I know— I’m in the minority. And just chill.

I think some of the best characters are a result of collaboration between the actor and the writers. Without a show in production Jack is really going nowhere.
