Ok. What is the chance of a Picard spinoff?

How did Bryan Fuller's Discovery go in the end? Anyone? I don't remember any episode which had the USS Discovery slip into Klingon space disguised as a D7.
That was never actually supposed to happen in Disco, it was just an internet rumor that gained traction.

One more of these, just to get your take, then I'm done.

Let's go for the gold!

15 years ago, but how about it? And forget about even nostalgia. Do you, someone who -- like me -- is also on the Generation X / Millennial cusp, think of this as retro? Is it "old school" to you?

I think it’s not really my generation of music (even though I do appreciate Gaga). But I don’t think it’s the current generation’s music either.

But that’s a little goal post shifting. We’re talking about nostalgia. Nostalgia is a feeling. Not an era or specific time period of entertainment. Those are two very different things.

Pretty much any music from the early 2000s onwards all mushes together. Most music you're bound to run into in (generalist!) bars and restaurants reflects this played on shuffle. And hell, even 80s and 90s rock has massive staying power in South America and southern Europe. Pull out Shazam and a song that might be new to you turns out to be over 30 years old.

Michelle Hurd seems to think she'd be involved with Legacy.

Dave Blass has said he'd like to upgrade the Enterprise-G if Legacy is greenlit.

Todd Stashwich seems pretty convinced Shaw will be revived in some way if Legacy happens.

I don't think Michelle Hurd, Dave Blass, and Todd Stashwich would be so far off-base with Terry Matalas.

As far as Jeri Ryan herself, she's onboard if Legacy was greenlit.

All this leads me to believe Legacy would feature Captain Seven and the Enterprise-G crew.

Beat TPTB over the head with enough memes and they'll come around!

So, the wife and I went and saw Inside Out 2 a few weeks ago. She really loved the first one and the second certainly was pretty good for a kids movie. Very minor spoilers will follow.
If you’re not familiar with the series, it’s the story of a girl, Riley, and her emotions. The sequels adds some new emotions as she enters puberty, including a cameo by the emotion of nostalgia.

TNG had virtually zero nostalgic connections with TOS beyond being on a ship named Enterprise. You wanna do that? Skip ahead 80 years to a time when we've moved far beyond the TNG era? Sure, absolutely. I'd love to see it!
The irony of it all is TNG was freer from connections to TOS purely because Gene wanted to avoid having to pay royalties to his ex-wife who partly owned the original show after the divorce.

Look, I tried to be pretty diplomatic when I started posting on this BBS in 2022. People would ask why I didn't like, say, SNW, and I'd actually try to explain why, like some poor effective altruist not appreciating the depths people will go to to be assholes on the Internet. "Hijacking the thread" -- according to the sea lions. So I'm far less likely to devote any length of time to elaborate on something now.

That said, one thing this thread demonstrates is that people are fans of Star Trek for very different reasons. Back in the day, most hard core fans seemed to be of the continuity/lore variety. There are clearly other types here who spend far far more time talking about Star Trek online than I'm ever willing to put in. If you like a reboot like SNW, more power to you. Just expect that a massive portion of the fanbase wants something else, like a continuation that moves forward 21 years worth of storylines.

From what I remember, that book has less than 20 pages on PICARD. Anyone can go to the closest Barnes and Noble or equivalent and read it for themselves. Considering the dearth of behind the scenes information on the series, it's unfortunate that Stewart didn't cover more of it.
I don't think it's far enough in the past yet. NDAs and all of that. More than half the book is about his life before TNG. I actually like that. We know a lot of about his time on TNG and the making of TNG. His life before Star Trek, especially with the Royal Shakespear Company, I didn't know anywhere near as much about.

Although there were a few surprises reading about his time during TNG that I didn't know about before. Like Patrick Stewart's affair with Jennifer Hetrick. Reading about it in Making It So was the first time I ever heard about it.

Yeah I read the PICARD portion the same day I picked up the Titan (Publishing) art/making of the series coffee table book. Both are definitely scrubbed of any particularities. And what little details are offered seem to conflict between the two books. I'm looking forward to when a Mark Altman 50 Year Mission type book comes out to cover this latest era. What we know about must just be the tip of the iceberg.

Massive portion.....

I'm hoping for the same in reverse. Why did it work for others? Like, it was working for me and then it just...stopped. Possibly with the Borg, but I think the Jack reveal was flatter than I wanted, owning in no small part to not feeling the Picard's long lost son bit.

But, for me, I feel like it's the Borg Queen and the threat that she continued to make. I think, in a way, it's how many felt about Data's return but in reverse from Nemesis. Data's death didn't really bother me in Nemesis, but I didn't have that strong connection to the character. But, seeing Picard have that final "neck break/catharsis" in First Contact, only for the Queen to come back was just difficult to parse.

Reasonably it should work. On paper, The Queen and a Rogue Changeling is an interesting mash up, like Chang and Cartwright and Naclus in TUC. But, in execution, flat cat.
Maybe the real Picard season 3 was the confusion we found along the way?

How did you discover that? I read it in "Star Trek: Designing Starships Volume 4: Discovery”. A quote from John Eaves
The same John Eaves who has been known to supply incorrect information, like the whole 25% fiasco? The same John Eaves who had to temporarily shut down his social media accounts by request of Paramount because he was frequently posting inaccurate information?

Well, shit me, horsey. If that John Eaves said it, then what do I know?

When I watch Trek on TV, I want new things to happen. While some of the Kurtzman stuff isn't "bad", I want more from Trek than simple nostalgia pandering. If I want to relive Trek's greatest hits, I have shelves full of DVDs, Blu-rays and assorted novels and comics.

I don't find the children of main characters in any way interesting.
