OK, Star Trek cinephiles - Who would your Dream Director be for XII?

Re: OK, Star Trek cinephiles - Who would your Dream Director be for XI

Brad Bird. Or Andrew Stanton, but only after he's completed John Carter of Mars. :bolian:

I didn't mind Abrams, although I thought the pacing was a bit too frenetic (perhaps due to having to fit the "young years" into this film), and each scene was a little too short.
Same here, after leaving the theater I KNEW something was bothering me, the movie was near flawless! (plot-holes exclueded) something didn't feel right, and it's like you said Roykirk it's too frenetic and each scene was a little short, it never gave me time to breath and absorb what I had just scene.

Oh, and I'd LOVE to see what Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, Hollow man) could do with STAR TREK!:D

And remembering Basic Instinct, I'd LOVE to see what he could do with Uhura...

I think the movie needs different writers, not directors.

Re: OK, Star Trek cinephiles - Who would your Dream Director be for XI

Abrams would be fine, again. If not him, then it might be nice to see Joss Whedon take it on.

Or ninjax. :bolian:

Well my "dream director" would obviously be me. I'd finally get the Trek film i wanted, but it would most likely be despised by the rest of the Worlds population and flop miserably.

If we have to use people with talent, then i wouldnt mind seeing Sam Raimi take a shot at it. I've been a fan of his direction and visual style since Evil Dead, and who wouldnt want Bruce Campbell on the bridge of the Enterprise.

I honestly can't think of anyone else that I would want on there right now, I liked the job JJ did.

I think if any of us (and we all want to) tried his hand at it, it would result in this:

Abrams.

Its just a few butt hurt fans who wanted to bash the film before they saw it for not being too "Star Trek" or the canon violations that don't like it.

Oh no you figured out our master plan. You're as big a genius as Kirk the sex pest.

Yep. Pretty much sums up what my vision of Star Trek would likely be seen as by the rest of the world.

Re: OK, Star Trek cinephiles - Who would your Dream Director be for XI

How about Paul W.S. Anderson? He could direct something like 'Star Trek: Event Horizon' or 'Star Trek: Resident Evil'.

Re: OK, Star Trek cinephiles - Who would your Dream Director be for XI

If not Abrams, how about Peter Jackson?

Re: OK, Star Trek cinephiles - Who would your Dream Director be for XI

Ok, so far there have been a few cool suggestions. Off the top of my head, suggestions have been:

Abrams is the clear favourite so far, with two films under his belt - MI3 and STXI. Cited for exciting visuals, good pace and handling of characters. Visual design-largely positive response.

Other names in the hat:

Ridley Scott ( Alien, Gladiator, Bladerunner)
James Cameron ( Terminator, Aliens, Abyss)
Jon Favreau ( Iron Man, Zathura, Swingers )
Spielberg ( Jaws, Minority Report, Munich, Raiders)
Tarantino ( Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown)
Cuaron (Y tu mama Tambien, Children of Men, Paris- je t'aime)
Brad Bird ( Iron Giant, Incredibles, Ratatouille)
Andrew Stanton ( Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, Wall-E)
Verhoeven ( Robocop, Starship Troopers, Soldier Of Orange)
Terry Gilliam (Twelve Monkeys, Brazil, Baron Munchausen)
Joss Whedon (Serenity, Buffy, Angel)
Michael Bay ( Transformers, Armageddon, the Rock)
Peter Jackson ( LotR, Frighteners, Dead Alive)
Sam Raimi ( Spiderman, Army of Darkness, Dark Man)

And one vote each for Captain Crunch and Silent Bob.

Madonna.

in all seriousness, JJ Abrams did a bang-up job for this first one. The second will be better now that he doesn't have to worry about getting the crew together.

Re: OK, Star Trek cinephiles - Who would your Dream Director be for XI

I did state James Cameron as a second choice (Terminator, Aliens, ...)

Re: OK, Star Trek cinephiles - Who would your Dream Director be for XI

The problem I have with Cameron, Ridley Scott, and Spielberg is that they now represent the old guard. I'm not saying they can't direct, but they are very much set in their ways, and I'm not sure they would bring the energy a young director does. If for some reason we couldn't get Abrams, I would really prefer one of the up and coming directors.
