Ok.. Is there something in the water....

That seems to be causing marriages all around me to collapse?

In just the last year, I count no less than 10 marriages of friends or coworkers that have now turned into separations or outright divorce.

My own marriage is on the rocks, but there's a glimmer of hope still, and we're working on it.

Is it just this age (right around 40) that sees marriages start to dissolve? My own has lasted just short of 15 years, and most of the marriages failing around me have lasted almost as long or even longer.

I mean, WTF is going on? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Well the statistics say that a high percentage of marriages will fall apart, so it's not like it's uncommon. I've been around my own share of "troubled" marriages in the past few years and it's unnerving at times. Especially when the ones that I look to as inspiration turn out to have huge cracks in them.

Then again, we're more likely to remember the negative moments or divorces than thinking about the number of "stable" marriages, so it may just be a perception thing. Especially if you are having issues in your own marriage, you may be more conscious of similar issues around you than you were before.

Unless you have less than 20 married friends/coworkers, your observations are in line with statistical averages.

Not really. I'm 36 and of my friends who are married, I can only think of one - my brother in law. And that was, oh, three years ago.

Economy is tough, and I've read money is a big cause of trouble in a marriage, especially if times are tough or trust is breached.

Anyway, good luck, Dan.

Thanks man... I think it will be ok.. Some long festering issues (years old, in fact), finally came to a head last year and it's been a rough road back.. But we're going to Rush together, so there's always hope, yes?

Dunno.. The guy who was buying the tickets (when good tickets were available) is getting divorced (of course) and has suddenly put everything else on hold while he deals with that.. So as a result, I haz no tickets and I really don't want to sit on the lawn for Maiden..

I thought the guy had bought the tickets already, but just found out last week that he hadn't..

Muse is coming later this year and we've already bought tickets for that, so my concert budget it pretty well shot..

By the time I was in my mid-teens, my parents (both in their late 30s then) were on the verge of divorce, and most of their married friends and acquaintances were headed toward splitsville. In fact, of all the couples we knew, the ones who stayed together the longest were a gay couple my parents had known since I was a baby.

Hmmmm . . .

Oh wow, have you seen Maiden before? If not, do whatever you can, I saw them just before Bruce originally left in the 90s, one of the most amazing concerts i've ever seen.

Mind you, if you've got Muse tickets already, that's gotta be some comfort, they are another truly fantastic live act.

I've pit tickets 20 feet from the stage (it's an ampitheatre). June 14th can't get here soon enough!

Hey DH :)

You lucky git! You are in for such a great gig, they never give anything less than 110%. You'd think with 3 lead guitarists things would start to get a little loose, but they are just right on the money.

My seething jealousy is tempered only by the fact that I am seeing STP on June 16th in London. If I had an extra days holiday to spare I could stay in London until the Saturday and see Pearl Jam too playing in Hyde Park, but my budget and holiday allowance won't stretch to it.

All but one of my friends who got married straight after school subsequently got divorced. All those who waited until around their 30s are still married. Our extended family have only seen 2 divorces in about 24 people. I don't know if that's average or not.

Hey yourself. :techman:

Yeah, Maiden brings it every show. If you haven't already, check out Flight 666 DVD. Amazing.

Dave and Adrian are so tight it's sometimes hard to tell who's playing what. Janick, when he sticks to what he's supposed to play, does nice work too.

That's what I'm hoping.. Also hoping the Silver Sun Pickups are still their opening band.. I think Albuquerque lucked out when Muse had to cancel their Denver show last month due to snow, because we're either the night before or the night after their make up show for that date.

Maiden is incredible live.. Saw them 3 years ago here in ABQ and was blown away.. My buddy and I had great seats and then a friend with better seats gave us his pit passes as he and his wife were more into drinking than getting up close..

Josh, I feel bad for Jannick. Sometimes it seems like he's got nothing to do, except for the songs he wrote after Adrian left. He's a great guitarist, but when Dave and Adrian get into a groove, he's just "there"...

Just about everyone i know is divorced or getting divorced. All of my daughter's friend's parents are divorced. It is pretty scary. Good luck to the OP. I hope you guys can work it out.

I'm 30 and I'm going on 3 years of marriage next month and 9 years of togetherness and stuff. Still chugging along happily, though various stresses recently have us a little chippier than usual.

Most of the folks I know are just in the process of getting married. Either within the past year or so, about to be shortly, or are single/casually dating. They are mostly academic types though, so all those years of school lead to life starting later than for some.

So the people I know haven't been married long enough to get divorced yet. I can see one or two that I've got pegged for divorce in 5 years though.

I get the feeling that when Adrian Smith came back, the band had become such good mates with Jannick that they just didn't want to fire him, so they worked around it instead. I think also it was Adrian that suggested him in the first place. From everything i've seen and heard about them, they all seem like a bunch of really genuine down to earth guys.

And yeah Josh, I have got the Flight 666 DVD, new album on the way this year as well, i'm going to have to make the effort on the album tour as they can't have too many more in them.

I thought you said miscarriages and was worried we were becoming Children of Men.

If you have had 15 happy years that's 15 more years than most people will.
