OH wow!!!

can you remember the first scifi movie your parents, or anyone, brought you to? Where you came out babbling like your brain was just stuffed with too much info??

For me it was 2001. I saw that at a young age, 7 or 8 I think, and when I came out of that theatre, with the images of the space walk in my mind, and all that happened in that movie? I still have this memory, and my mom loves to tell it, where I came out and told my uncle "That movie was totally illogical"....for a 7 year old, a movie like 2001 is like totally cerebal oinment!!!

What are your youngest SCIFI memories???

Can't think of one. My parents don't like Sci-Fi films. The closest you could get was maybe Batman in 1989 (but I was three).

I can't remember to be honest. My dad is heavily into Science Fiction so I just absorbed so much of it as youngster that it would be difficult to say which was the first:)

the first time i went to the cinema was The Rocketeer in 1991.

my earliest SF memories are watching Doctor Who, Battlestar Glactica, Star Trek (the faceless woman in Charlie X) and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century as a wee nipper... oh, and UFO reruns...

Well...then..what is the first scifi movie he took you too that was 'way out' there..you know, like a Boy and His Dog, Zardoz, or heck, even Kingdom of The Spiders....what was the first one where you asked your dad coming out of the theatre "Dad, what was that about?"

Rob

The earliest ones I remember seeing were the first Peter Cushing Dr Who film and 1 Million Years BC, not sure which was first.

It might have been "Silent Running" that was the first one:)

I loved that movie...not sure if today's "kids" could get into it...and was happy that the ship turned up on the old BSG...

First scifi movie I remember seeing in the theater - Logan's Run (1976)
First scif movie I "came out babbling like your brain was just stuffed with too much info" - Star Wars (1977)

Actually, I remember being enthralled and babbling about Logan's Run. I loved the maze cars and my uncle had a shirt that was the same pattern (only opposite colors) of the Sandman uniform top.

And, upon looking at wikipedia and the movies that came out in the 70s that I would have seen in the theater - it looks like The Super Inframan (1976) also falls into this category. I definitely remember seeing it and pretending I was Inframan crossing my arms and firing lasers. Funny, I thought I saw that movie in the late 70s or early 80s.

It's not my youngest sci-fi memory (which would be seeing Star Wars at the Coronet in SF during its initial release), but the sci-fi memory I immediately thought of upon seeing this thread was when my fellow nerdy middle school friends and I saw 2010 in the theater. We couldn't stop talking about it for weeks. It's still one of my favorite movies. I remember us discussing how old we'd be in the impossibly far off year of 2010. Hard to believe a mere week from now that'll be next year!!!

Until Star Wars came along, Logans Run was the bomb...the ability to just order up a hooker like that gave me many nights of..well..you get the picture...

Great movie. And one wonders if, down the road, our society doesn't revert to some kind age limite so as to make the world's food supply and stuff last longer...

Rob

Supposedly, I saw ROTJ in the theaters when I was not even a month old... though that might just be my dad poking fun at my life-long enjoyment of Star Wars.

I do remember seeing Willow and TNG when it came out.

Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman: The Movie and Star Trek: The Motion Picture came out when I was aged 3-5. Those films formed my earliest impressions of sc-fi as a knock-my-socks-off beloved genre.

Star Wars. Initial release. Nine years old.

The funny thing was that my parents asked in advance and I didn't want to see it. If I remember correctly, I was judging from the movie poster, which showed a guy holding a sword above his head, a girl crouching at his feet, and a couple of mechanical-looking weirdos. That didn't interest me.

After they talked me into seeing it anyway, I came out of the theater with eyes like saucers. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::drool::eek::drool::eek::drool:

The first sci-fi film and indeed the first movie I remember being taken to as a child was E.T. the Extraterrestrial in 1981 which I scarcely remember being only five or so. The second movie I was taken to was STII:TWoK.

That one I remember vividly. We walked in a few minutes after it started and the first thing I saw was the worms being put up their noses. Talk about freek a kid out!

Probably Return of the Jedi in 1983. I was 5 then, and remember the last space battle cos I was on the edge of my seat.

According to my parents, I saw Back to the Future part III on tv when I was two.
The first scifi movie I remember seeing was Star Wars, on VHS when I was five.
As far as I can remember, the first scifi movie I saw in the theatre was Star Wars Special Edition.

I feel so very, very old. ;)
