Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogue

Will YOU make a break for the exit once the epilogue comes on?

  • No, the epilogue rocks! Only a cameo by Jar-Jar could possibly improve upon it.

  • Heck, yes! I'll have had my fill of Emma Watson in upconverted 3D by then, and am not a masochist.

Two pics here.

Do the filmmakers not understand that this was clearly a practical joke on Rowling's part? Okay, okay, so it wasn't. And the publisher actually let her put it in the book. But do they really have to film it, too? They've got the perfect excuse not to: "the actors are too young! They'd look ridiculous! We'll totally reunite in nineteen years and film it then if you insist (fingers crossed behind their backs), but at least let us wait until then!"

Now, to be honest, I don't really care, as Book 7 and Film 6 left me cold enough that not even the promise of (a post-production upconversion) Emma Watson in 3D could make me waste four hours and twenty bucks on this movie. But I do think it's kinda funny that they're actually going to go ahead and include the epilogue, which I think lots of HP fans would rather forget about. If you plan on seeing Part II, will you make a break for the exit when you see "19 Years (And a Whole Lot of Suck) Later", trampling as many kids' toes as necessary in the process in order to have left before King's Cross fades back in?

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

They should do what ABC just did to Lost: post an "epilogue" that gives everyone the wrong impression about how the show "actually" ended and causes widespread panic and hysteria. :p

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

I thought the Epilogue was alright. Didn't hate it, didn't love it.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Eh, I've already been sullied by reading the epilogue. Even if they don't improve it even a little bit, they can't possibly make it any worse. They could only make it so bad it's good (cue young actors looking hilarious in makeup?)

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

I loved the epilogue...it wasn't necessary but I looked at is as a reward for reading all those books! I'm glad it will be in the film.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

The pictures of Ginny and Harry (along with I assume their son) actually look pretty good and what I imagined them to look like. I'm looking forward to both films now.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

I'm a little confused. Is there some sort of massive fan consensus that the epilogue was some horrible piece of work? Other than being a tad corny I really didn't see a problem with it.

Why wouldn't they film it???

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Harry looks like one of those kids who has an aging disease. It's weird. Aging makeup never works.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

They couldn't have just cast an actual 37 year old?

Essentially. The epilogue or crapilogue as the fans call it was written by the author in the first stages before she ever wrote many of her door stoppers so it doesn't seamlessly fit in with the rest of the book.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Eh. Read a summary of it online and it doesn't sound bad. It's a nice way to include a "happy ending" and remove whatsherface from having to continue the series if she doesn't want to.

As for the movie... those aging effects are awful. They look like kids with makeup.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

I HATED the "epilogue". I wanted to find out more about the immediate aftermath of Voldemort's defeat/death given everything that happened. I wasn't particularly interested in what was going on several years later. Yeah, we knew that things would be fine for Harry and everybody else who survived but I'm still curious as to how the second rise & final downfall of Voldemort affected/changed the Wizarding community. Maybe a brief addendum would've nice before launching into the epilogue? We get a few sentences at the end of the last present chapter but that's about it.

Radcliffe is 21, it's not like showing a young boy and using a different actor for when he's grown up, he is grown up. It's not like he's going to look like a largely different person by the time he's 37.

And you can't judge the absolute quality of the effect in these pictures until you see what the actors look like post-production.

I don't understand what the problem with the epilogue is. It worked for me. And whatever Rowling's motivation was, as if we should care, is irrelevant. And it will also serve to close off the series so we don't end up with someone deciding to do another Potter film.

I really don't see the problem. Like EVERY SINGLE SF/F FINALE EVER MADE, the final book is hated by as many people as who like it. The same will hold true of the movie (perhaps moreso as people will have likely become sick of 3-D by then; the cracks in the fad are already showing, especially the upconverted 3-D). But frankly there would be more haters if they changed the ending than if they decided to leave it be.

The only thing I find weird is I heard they were supposed to be using CG aging, not practical makeup. And in the photos Harry and Ginny actually look rather dingy and depressing-looking. It would be interesting if they decide to go with a downbeat interpretation of the epilogue.

i don't know why they have to go with aging make up at all. i'm 32 and i look a hell of a lot like i did at 17 or 18. all they need to do is add a dash of grey to the hair or a different hair style and they'd be fine.

unless i'm just lucky i look so young...

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

The Epilogue is the final turd in the overflowing backed up toilet that is Deathly Hallows.

Re: Oh, for Pete's Sake: They're actually filming the Potter 7 epilogu

Wait, so now we're complaining when things from the book are being included?

I don't mind these films. I think it's kinda cool that there's gonna be 8 movies with largely the same cast all following on from each other. That's surely a first in cinema, right? Also, Emma Watson.

Oh, and Order Of The Phoenix was pretty good.

Having said that, I haven't read the books.

Because I'm not 11.
