OGAM DVD

Aside from any copyright issues or production issues or story issues (and yes, I've contributed to all of those before), I just watched the DVD and I have to say that OGAM looks absolutely gorgeous on a TV screen with DVD quality.

I'm getting tempted...

If Paramount would ever officially license the DVD release I will buy it in a second. But until then I refuse to give 1 cent to the OGAM producers profiting off of copyright violations.

I thought the entire idea from fan productions was to get some quality stuff out to the fans just because they like doing it and the fans would like it. New Voyages had a great idea, just put them up for download and let the public download them...now you have to buy something from the store on OGAM to get a dvd, etc...they knew full well going into it they were doing for free. Now it looks like the corporate greed has hit even the fan productions where you have to purchase something to get a dvd...why go thru all that expense..why not just put it up for free download...the film would get around the world a lot faster and more and more people would enjoy it and probably become bigger or newer fans.

That's the problem when professionals get involved involved in a substantial way in so-called "fan" productions. It didn't seem to be a problem for STNV, which remained a fan production despite the donated participation of some professionals, but OGAM was basically started from the very beginning as a professional production. You had "Sky" Conway, with a long (albeit shady) history of working on the fringes of professional science fiction productions; Tim Russ, who was paid to direct the thing, etc. etc. They obviously incurred some serious costs along the way and are now looking for a way to make money from the film.

Which would be fine if they had any right to the content. But they don't. So you have to wonder why they went into it in the first place.

Exactly..why do it in the first place. Plus by streaming it they limited it's exposure which is something I'd hope they did not want to do, they wanted it to get out as much as possible and to do that it needs to be put up for download only..
