The cell phone network providers will receive incentives by the cell phone manufactures to make changes to their cell networks that will require you to buy a new smartphone to be able to connect. The latest change I was forced to make was I had to get rid of my perfectly good Moto Z 4g, because AT&T network, that my provider Cricket uses, required 5g with HD voice in order to use their system, and the Moto Z would stop working. I had to buy a Moto G stylus 5G for the new system.

Especially since I had purchased the Moto Z to replace another Moto smartphone that was going to be incompatible with another change in the network 4 years before I got the Moto G stylus. The first Moto Smartphone was purchased to replace a Cricket phone that looked and had a keyboard like a Blackberry. I had to get rid of it when Cricket was taken over by AT&T and the old Cricket phone was incompatible with AT&T's network. The phone even had a user accessible battery compartment.
