Official TrekBBS Fantasy Football League!

Sorry, guys. I'm just not around that much these days, and I hadn't even looked at the football league since the end of the last season. It's activated now and the keeper deadline is the 13th of August - a week from tomorrow. So make sure you pick your five keepers (assuming you want to keep that many).

The draft date is scheduled for 10:15 P.M. Tuesday, Sept. 2. That would allow people to know as much about where lineups are going to be before the league starts Thursday night. Obviously, the draft will be shorter with kept players, and unless we have a draft very soon, prime time hours are going to be out (plus, paid leagues get preference there). So if people want to debate the draft date, do so on the league page (we have several non BBSers there).

If somebody wants to do another non-keeper ESPN league, I'd be up for that, but I have absolutely zero interest in a Yahoo league any more. Pay for live stats?? HA!

If someone wanted to start one and there is interest, I would leave the Yahoo league in favor of ESPN. I just made the comment the other day about it because I've heard a lot of good and more enticing things about ESPN than Yahoo, and I don't like the pay for stattracker thing.

By the way, welcome back. Hope things are going well.

Not having done this before, can you give me the "Reader's Digest" version of how it all works?
 
Sure, I can break things down for you real quick.

Basically, we all get together and select a group of players from NFL teams to form your "fantasy team". This is done just one time at the start of the season. Usually, this will consist of a QB, two RBs, two WRs, a TE, a kicker, and so on. The players you select (or "draft") then play in their weekly games. Whatever their personal statistics are (250 yards passing and 3 touchdowns for example) are they converted into points based on however each league sets its rules. All your players stats for that weeks games are then converting into points, and you come up with how many points your team scores that week.

Usually, you're matched up against another team, and whichever team scores more points is the winner. This whole process repeats every week.

And thats basically how it all works. Any questions?
 
reminder, get your ESPN keeper picks in ASAP, it locks tomorrow, i believe!

Also, anyone wanna give me a useful suggestion or two for my team? Not realy sure where to go, outside the obvious one or two. Football is a lot more iffy than baseball with this sort of thing, and the difference between starter/keeper and backup guy isn't much, and often arbitrary...
 
I've been too busy to even look at football, so I'm about the last pesron anyone would want suggestions from. I have a draft tomorrow night in my money league, so I'd best get my shit together soon. At least it will be held in a bar, so if I screw up, I can blame the beer. Considering how long it takes when you're drafting live and in person, there's usually quite of few bone-headed moves once the alcohol starts kicking in.
 
My son wants to join, he was in it last year, and the year before that. But, when I went to Yahoo sports, and put in the team "23254" and the Password "Trek" it ws reported as "full", but there appears to be only 6 teams in the league. I have two sons, so if it needs to be an even number, they can both play.

Ya was harder for me to decide on ESPN keepers than baseball, but think have who I want figured out.
 
i'm still up in the air, but don't think i HAVE 5 keepers on that one. Some decent players, but not 5 players that should go in the top 60 picks...
 
I'm planning on keeping 4 players in the ESPN league, but none of them are what I'd consider elite players. I've gone back and forth about keeping a 5th, but since I'm so weak at one position, I almost have to stick with 4 and hope there's someone available there when it's my turn to draft.

Had my money league draft tonight. Boy, did that take a long time! For some reason, round 1 (which should have gone the fastest) took almost 20 minutes. It was downhill from there. My team was lucky enough to draw the #1 draft position (big surprise- took Tomlinson), but by round 13, I had enough. I started taking unknown rookies just for the hell of it.
 
I've chosen my 5 keepers. 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR. A couple of them are on the old side, and one of them is holding out for more money, but I figure those 5 players are a good base to build around. I don't think there will be too many players better than them available.
 
I've got an old geezer on my keeper list as well. But he's probably better than anyone I could pick up when I'd be up to draft, so I figured I'd hang on to him.

I'm hoping folks don't hang on to their QBs: I think I went through 11 (yes, eleven) last year. Both of my starters (Leinhart and Delhome) went belly-up early on, and towards the end, I even picked up Rex Grossman, Cleo Lemon and that loser from K.C. Talk about despersation!
 
Could be worse, JP Losman was my starting QB at the beginning of last year. The draft went so poorly for me that QB was like my 15th round pick (kept missing my guys, or not seeing anything special). Drafting 12 out of 12 wasn't the best start for my keeper league (and then having Marvin Harrison tank it for me didn't help)

On a more serious note, only if you can get someone to replace you. Draft is in a couple days, and it would screw the whole thing up if we're short a guy with only a couple days to replace you...
