Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

I'll be back tomorrow to talk... it's way past my bedtime. Besides that, I'm not very coherent now... still having orgasm now that I've watched the HD trailer for 10 or 15 times.

I am.... THE LAW!!!

Re: Future police

This is about 15 miles north of me in a town called Buffalo, Ia. The town James T. Kirk is born in (Riverside, Ia) is about 25 miles west of me. I live in Muscatine, Ia. This quarry is a lot deeper in person and has a striking resemblance to the one in the trailer. Food for thought....

Re: Future police

Trailer overall was good, but that opening bit of dialogue between the cop and the kid was painful.

"What is your name?"
"My name is James Tiberius Kirk. . ."

Not only does he respond to the question by repeating the subject of the question, he trails off as if he is supposed to say something after it. For such a useless scene they sure got a terrible actor for it, and whoever wrote that exchange needs a kick in the crotch.

Anyways. . . overall good. But is that the Gorignak from Galaxy Quest I see?

I suspect it's cut that way for the trailer. The scene may appear in the film, but I doubt those lines are sequential. If that is how it comes out in the film it's very awkward, I agree.

Re: Future police

..the lispy "...James s'Tiberious Kirk..." is Pissed off and totally defiant to a robo-cop...

Why not repeat it back at the 'droid, I would have.

and yes it's a pre-Data 'droid.... I don't believe that a human would have a number emblazoned on his/her forehead (924), It would be on the chest piece/jacket.

And a Human would have taken off the mask to talk to a kid.

On another note...
Has anybody else noticed that the HUD's on the bridge are not static.... the graphic's on them move!

That's just sooo cool. :techman:

:vulcan: yesss...I'm a geek.

Re: Future police

I can't believe that given the way the line "What. Is your name?" is delivered people are arguing this is a human in a mask!
Now I've said that, I'll be proved drastically and hilariously wrong come May now, but if that is meant to be a guy in a suit they picked an awful voice actor for that line. It sounds robotic, clipped, a 23rd Century Microsoft Sam.

Also, If it's a guy in a mask, why does he also have a visor? His face is already completely covered...

It's probably just his badge-number.

Maybe, but not in that fashion. Even something like "my name? I'm James Tiberius Kirk!" would've come off better.

I saw the trailer on Saturday in the theatre and i must say AWESOME!! Can not wait. I think the beginning is kind of off a little but i like it. The rest is great. I really hope it will appeal to the general audience and the trek purists. Also i hope it is successful and i think it will be. Guess we have to wait till may to find out.

On the police man/woman/robot, i think its a person. Just seem odd to be a robot. I don't know why but it does. Of course just my opinion.

It sems odd because in "What Are Little Girls Are Made Of", "Requiem for Methusela" and Star Trek: TNG, Artificial Life Forms are rare and a wonder.

A Robot capable of policing unpredictable situations and making the value judgements of a Cop runs counter to this.

It could be a non-oxygen breathing alien, from one of the member planets of the Federation. Methane breather perhaps?

The electronic-sounding voice might be a translation from his native language via a less sophisticated Universal Translator than those implemented and honed by Starfleet (Think of the old GPS devices being less accurate than those used by the Military, though downgraded for ease of production rather than any kind of security concerns).

Of course, we all know the real reason is that it is a way to tell the audience that they are in the future, while keeping something of the familiarity of a Traffic Cop for the scene.

I just saw a report about the movie on the german news, they showed most of the trailer, but it was cut differently. They basically told everyone to go and see it and stressed that it's not lame like the old movies.:shifty:
Well, at least it was good promotion for the new movie.

Looking over the footage, I did find something cool on the bridge. When ever the ship is on Red Alert the ceiling is red, while when the ship on stand down, the bridge ceiling is white. I think thats kind of cool.

In the scene where young Kirk is driving the Corvette, how come in one scene the convertible top is up and then in the next, it is down? Is it a possible continuity error?
