Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

I just watched it online twice. The way it started reminds me of how the trailer for Enterprise started with young Archer and his model kit. The rest of the trialer is absolutely amazing. I think this is the most visually stunning Trek has ever been. Bright, futuristic and colorful. They also did something I didn't think could be done, they improved on a lot of the starship action sequences. I thought I had seen it all because there's only so much you can do with this stuff, but they managed to punch it up a notch and give us something new. I especially loved the shot of the Enterprise going to warp. My only complaint is that they should have had the kid say "James T. Kirk" instead of "James TIBERIUS Kirk, which is long, drawn out and not as instantly recognizable. I also have some issues with other stuff we saw, like Kirk watching the Enterprise being built from his bike, but that has little to do with the trailer and more to do with Trek's backstory. I'll address that when the time comes. So, that's about it. I've seen it and I'm excited.

But instead of listening to his father quote dumb sounding platitudes and being racist about Vulcans, this illustrious Captain is doing something that looks actually fun ;)

A ship with a spherical center

I dunno why but this ship is fascinating me for some reason. Do you think it's Starfleet? The design looks pretty different from what we're used to and what the other SF ships look like in the trailer. On the other hand it appears to be firing, and is it inside Nero's ship? I am just curious what function this plays in the movie.

Perhapps this is the way older spock gets into the past.. sneaks inside Nero's ship and steals one of his little shuttles to escape.

I wonder if older spock ever makes it back to his time, or if this is his "generations" with a death scene? Dont know if anyone has considered that yet....

I've converted the trailer to DVD and played it though my Pioneer plasma about 5 times. Either the kid's got one hell of speech impediment, or he says My name is James Siberious Kirk.

JJ really should've spotted this and done a redub in the studio.

Not disagreeing with you - you heard what you heard - but I clearly hear the "T".

Same, I don't really hear what you heard there mate. He says 'T' to my ears.

There is a scene where Spock is walking towards the camera with his mother, rocks in the background - Spock has three solid rank stripes of equal diameter. There is a later bridge scene where Kirk slaps Spock on the shoulder and Kirk has two thicker solid bands with a thin solid band in between. Scene later in the trailer shows Spock striking Kirk and having two solid bands.

Errrm, look closer at the shot with Amanda, he has two solid bands there, too.
Check out the screen cap

Yep. You're just transposing the S at the end of James to the beginning of "Tiberius".

Anyone notice the captain's stripes on Kirk's sleeve during the "buckle up" scene?

I haven't read every comment in the thread yet, so I don't know if this has been answered already but who was in bed with Kirk? At first I thought it was Uhura, but when I paused it, it looked like someone else. Who was it?

As for a few more observations...

- I like the transporter effects.

- I didn't notice the large buildings in the distance when young Kirk was driving the car.

Two thick with a thin solid stripe in the middle. Don't you read my earlier posts man...LOL

To mimic Scotty...

Looks Fun

About bloody time we had some of that back in Star Trek

Hugo - A happy Trekkie again

I just showed the trailer to five guys here in the office (ages 23 to 40) who aren't really Star Trek fans, but they're all sci-fi/action film fans, and they all seemed underwhelmed. The trailer just didn't seem to do much for any of them.

Well I think some of that probably has to do with seeing it on a small screen. Or none of them wanted to admit that Star Trek looked cool. I bet at least three of them go see the movie. :)

I'm freezing it in places now and I noticed that the Spock sitting with Winona Ryder looks like Leonard Nimoy, not Zackary Quinto. It looks like he's got a prosthetic face.

Well, JJ did have a blank check from paramount. Money does wonders.

That would be spocks father, not spock, sitting with ryder. She's holding on to baby spock in that shot.
