Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

It appears some people think the kid said "Siberius" instead of "Tiberius" and are calling for J.J.'s head because of their hearing problems. I don't know about anyone else, but I heard "Tiberius." If someone did think he said "Siberius," trust me, he said "Tiberius."

TIBERIUS?!

Damn, I thought he said, "Psiberius." Which I thought was kinda awesome.

Correct me if I'm wrong

- Assuming an impule engine can accelerate the Enterprise to c/2, whre c is the speed of light.

- Assuming the Enterprise has 600,000 metric tonnes, which is 6.0 x 10^11 g, the energy required to get it into a 36,000 Km orbit is:

delta Eg = Eg (orbit) - Eg (ground), where Eg = Gravitational Potential Energy

Given:
Radius of Earth = 6,378 km ~= 6.4 x 10^6 m
Orbit = 3.6 x 10^7 m

= mgh (orbit ) - mgh (ground) = mg(hg - ho)

= 6x10^11g * 9.81 m/s/s * ( 3.6 x 10^7 m - 6.4 x 10^6 m)
Eg= 1.74 x 10^20 J

Withoug going into relativity, and using simple kinematics (v =c/2, rlativistic effects can be ignored), to get the Enterprise from rest velocity to c/2 we need the following energy:

Ek = 0.5*m*v^2 = 0.5*m*(c/2)^2 = 0.125*m*c^2 = 6.75 x 10^27
Ek = 6.75 x 10^27 J

Now, as you can see the energy required to get to half the speed of light is 10 million times grater than to get into standard geosyncronous orbit. Think about that.
That's hilarious, Sebialex!, and quite amazing at the same time, 'cause I still don't know if what you have calculated here is for real (accurate) or not, but hey, very impressive nonetheless! Thanks :bolian:

Really looking forward to seeing the new trailer next week. As for the new Enterprise... AS ABOVE :wtf:

.......

Is anyone awake over there in the new land of Obama? Anyhow, without digressing too much, and for those who haven’t seen it yet, my Enterprise designs in hope of what may have been for 1701-A. Designed after the tragic unveiling of E-D. My design, a cross between movie Enterprise 1701 and sister ship Excelsior. Enjoy!...:)...

Next week? Official online launch in just about 8 hours!

BTW, I actually really like your designs! How about some renderings of the ship in action, etc.?

:scream: I know, but I will have to wait until Thursday here in the land of Oz until I get to appreciate it on the big screen, considering it will be shown at the theatre I decide to go'n see the new Bond flick at. I will no doubt watch it online too though.

Thanks for your comments on my designs too. As I told Psion in an earlier thread, I've never really had the skill to draw them up in perspective, but if you get the elevations looking fab, it will no doubt be just as good, if not better in perspective. And yes, would love to see it rendered in 3D after all these years of wondering what it would look like. Know of any devoted Trek ship renderers out there?? Thanks again :techman:

From what I've read of your posts so far, they are commonly, to all of us, of an antagonistic approach anyway - at least be honest with yourself. But if you intend to subtlely, personally attack a total stranger you have absolutely no clue about their life journey to start with, I suggest you take them on outside this forum, one-to-one. Another thing... Maybe the lunatics (you so easily label) have far more beautiful things to offer than the usual-regular "stuff". If you feel you have the power to cast such harsh generalised judgements upon others, here is a Native American Sharmanic quote for you, to put you in proper perspective to consider such things more appropriately and respectfully, it goes like this... "Walk two weeks in the shoes of another person, and then you may be able to judge them correctly."...:techman::techman::techman: ... Now that would be a "good-true" story on human ethics and relationship for the new Trek down the line... :)
You should read more of my posts. Oh... sorry... didn't know you were part of the raving lunatics. They are the only ones who could possibly be offended by my original post.

I think you are confusing an honest critique of your drawings with name calling. Get over it. So far your posting of your drawings in many threads over and over is bordering upon spam. We get it. You like to draw. You should try posting them in the Art forum.

You, sir or madam, are the one attacking someone who gave an honest personal opinion of drawings you posted for public consumption. I really did not know your ego was that fragile. Perhaps a psychologist could help you with this?

What is this, the 6th or 7th time you've posted links to those drawings? Enough already! We get it!

Back to trailer, still not seen it, only a few hours left :-)

I was wondering when you were going to take another bite :devil:. My original comment came from light-heartedness and light humour:guffaw:. Where did your motives for reply towards me come from??? Be honest with yourself, Sector 7... And you have the audacity to call others fringe lunatics needing the help of psychologists!... If you want to attack personally, meet me outside off this public forum!

It always amazes me the negative bias that people throw out upon complete stangers... "Kindness restores Unity.":techman:

All the same, as impolitic as the presentation may have been....he has a point. You are coming off as a little desperate.

They're good drawings, though. Have you posted them in Trek Art?

Re: Top Gun in space? Is Star Trek being dumbed down?

Negative bias? The fact that you're a "complete stranger" means I shouldn't have a problem with you virtually spamming the board with never-ending links to your drawings? The fact that you're a "complete stranger" gives you the right to do what you please on here?

As the above says, you're coming off as desparate. I'm not attacking your drawings, just saying it might be an idea to give it a rest now.

By the way, this is a Star Trek forum, people!

So I can't find this anywhere...did anyone ever figure which track from the Children of Dune soundtrack is used during the trailer?

I can't wait for this..looks awesome!:techman:

Yes it is... and if you would have a look around, there are appropriate boards for different things ...DS9 boards for DS9 discussions, TREK Literature board for postings on the novels AND TREK Art for posts like yours. That is the board where many of us with artistic inclinations go to post and view fan art.

So while it is a TREK Board, there are rules and guidelines so that it can operate as a community.

Re: Top Gun in space? Is Star Trek being dumbed down?

Apple seems to have the HD up already, but I don't have quick time :-(

Edit: No, it's just the teaser. But those bastered put it under the "just released" section...

Re: Top Gun in space? Is Star Trek being dumbed down?

Do you have a direct link? All I see there is the January 2008 teaser trailer.

BTW, I think Enterprise101's blueprints are pretty cool, particularly considering that they were apparently drafted quite some time ago.

I can't quite make out the year - 1990, or 1993?

I don't know...

I heard the kid say Riberius in the trailer.
Maybe J.J is going for a James R. Kirk in this movie.

:shifty:

Thanks, Fleet Admiral. Stay kind, stay cool... J.J.'s right about that optimism thing, ye know.:bolian:

1993 I drew them up.

LOL...they got me too, those little fuchers!!

As far as the name, I heard him say James Syphilis Kirk, which all things considered, may not be that far off the mark for him ... LOL
As a matter of fact, I will protest and not go see the movie unless Kirk is diagnosed with syphilis.
