Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

It seems that Kirk never really learned how to drive stick...remember A Piece of the Action?

Is there anywhere here where someone does a shot by shot analysis of the trailer? I still don't know what some of the things I saw were.
Ah, but in the NEW version of Trek, that episode no longer "really happened." So... cough cough... it's just hunky-dory.

Dammit...Now I will have to go and scratch my dvd's at the point this episode is stored.

Nah, A Piece of the Action still works. ;) I bet after that incident young Kirk was never allowed to drive one of those antique cars again, so I bet he was very much out of practice. Besides, who knows how the Iotians actually designed the car? They probably got some things wrong in trying to duplicate the design from the book.

Isn't anyone aware of the differences between the car in APotA and a Mustang. Hell I drive a 5 speed stick but I doubt I could just jump into that APotA car and simply drive it effortlessly away.

Be prepared to hear (non-Trek fan) reviewers bring this point up when the film is released next May.

I will be staggered and amazed if anyone cares - if they do, they need to get out more.

Exactly, 95% or more will not even care.

Exactly so.

I understand the problems with the idea, and I don't care. I understood when I saw the image of Kirk looking up at the ship why it's being built on Earth. All that matters is the moment, particularly considering how much scientific nonsense I've swallowed in "Star Trek" over the decades for a lot less of a payoff.

ETA: this post is not directed at anyone in particular, just me ranting.

I really fail to see the problem with the whole Earth vs space construction. Are you free to disagree with it? Sure, enjoy. Are you free to post a 90 page thesis on why Star Trek was way better when the ship was built in space? Sure thing. But I really don't like when people come in here to call Abrams & co. 'morons' or 'lazy' or 'unimaginative' based on this issue.

In TMP, the lounge doesn't fit in the saucer. The people who built the set KNEW this. They even had a few sketches of an alternate design that was just as good that would fit. And you know what? They chose to build it so it didn't fit for no other reason than that they felt like it.

And the world did not come crashing down. It was FINE. Or as they said at the time 'close enough'. They weren't morons, or lazy, they just made it that way and too bad, so sad, post a thread on it 30 years later. Anyway, my point is, I don't like people calling Abrams & co. intelligence into question over a movie. I'm not bothered by nay-sayers, just by giant pricks.

Yeah, I'm bothered by giant pricks, too.

(You weren't talking about me, were you?)

No, that's why I edited my post. I don't mind these debates at all, as long as they stay in perspective. I'm not bothered by folks coming on here and complaining about this or that nonsense, as long as they actually have a point and are not just being giant pricks about it for no apparent reason. Then I too turn into a giant prick.

I just got back from our "Quantum of Solace" showing. (My husband is a big Bond fan.)

We got lucky and they showed the trailer! In fact, it was the first one that they showed. You guys should have seen the big grin on my face. :)

^ :D

Re-watching the trailer, I think Kirk is hiding under Uhura's bed at one stage...
Does kinda look that way.

Isn't anyone aware of the differences between the car in APotA and a Mustang. Hell I drive a 5 speed stick but I doubt I could just jump into that APotA car and simply drive it effortlessly away.
(Speaking of differences) the car in the trailer is a Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray, not a Mustang.

Chevrolet Corvette (C2)

Ford Mustang

And yes, very few people who learned to drive on a car of any vintage coming after the Corvette was introduced would be able to drive the car in APotA without a great deal of difficulty. Very different machine.

Okay. Good. Then I wasn't talking about you, either.
:D

So we have differences in Terran automobile technology over forty years, possible 23rd Century changes to the engine and transmission of Kirk's car, and whatever the Iotians threw into their antique replicas to make up for whatever wasn't described in The Book. Even if Kirk should have said something like, "I drove on of these when I was a kid" in "A Piece of the Action", I think we can agree that canon is preserved.

Now, let's move on to Tarsus IV and Kodos the Executioner ...

Thanks you.

Here a couple of trailers for Trek movies that are pretty pedestrian - in addition to being mainly a lot of special effects, shouting and violence with no interesting story:

Wow, those films look awful. All about explosions, quips, and quick cuts. And they changed the uniforms and ships and sets for no reason. Trek is dead.

The one with Shatner also seems slow, wooden and dull. The one with Stewart - just wooden. ;)

Exactly and it doesn't lead to sex most likely. Kirk probably thought the quarters were vacant and settled himself in. When someone enters he ducks under the bed.

Uhura after a tough day sheds her clothes

em.. they are getting it on later in the same trailer...

Is it Uhura though? Hard to tell.

Guys, I don't think they are going to actually show two people doing it on the screen because then you get into the whole Movie ratings thing and limiting your audience big time if it's restricted. We aren't looking at NC-17 stuff here or anything. We will probably at the least get something similar to the love scene between Riker and Troi in Nemesis. You guys can handle that right? (That isn't directed at you JoeZ btw)
