Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

Did anyone notice some kind of snow monster belching out at Kirk on the snow planet??

Hey - I'd love to hear a reaction from a non-Trek fan. Of course, on a Star Trek Fan message board that's unlikely. But... I'd be curious if non-Trekkies would be pumped to see it.

I wonder if in the full movie little Kirk lets out a "Yippee!" as he drives through the desert?

I'm still having trouble mixing modern movie cliches with Star Trek but I'm trying to come around to looking forward to this thing.

Did they put the title "Star Trek" at the end? Or was it just the delta?

yes. It said "Star Trek".

Quite simply...

Here is a cap of it.

Top Gun in space? Is Star Trek being dumbed down?

Mixed emotions upon seeing it for the first time.

My gut reaction (mind you I have almost NOTHING to base this on) tells me that there may be more style here than substance.

It is clearly going to be the biggest looking Star Trek ever, but bigger does not always mean better. Just look at the budgets of TMP vs the Wrath of Khan. Khan had a much smaller budget, but was the far superior film in every way.

This trailer was big and loud, but that is not what the best of Star Trek is about. Star Trek is about it’s great characters and interesting ideas. Let’s hope tptb remembered what George Lucas forgot in making his Star Wars prequels. It’s about the characters not big explosions.

I also noticed that they are selling the sex aspect to much. Not that I’m against hot chicks taking their shirt off on camera, but ST is better than that. I hope they are not trying to dumb Star Trek down for the masses. That made me think that the rumors on the net this week about this being “Top Gun” in space may have something behind them. This looked like a Jerry Bruckheimer/Michael Bay trailer rather than a Star Trek trailer. In a related note I didn't see Captain Kirk give a high five to someone on the bridge when he says "buckle up" did I?

Most importantly the thing that speaks volumes to me about this trailer wasn’t was was on screen, but what was not on screen. The lack of a single shot of Leonard Nimoy as Spock gives me a hint of where they are going with this film.

I understand that this film is marketed towards a new demographic (as it should be to broaden the franchises popularity) but what about the fans who made Star Trek what it was? I hope the creative team didn’t forget about those people and their 40 plus years of supporting the series.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mean to sound negative here (I guess I do don’t I?) I am eagerly awaiting this film and I will go into it with an open mind and judge it on it’s own merits. I’m sure I am reading far too much into a two minute trailer.

Abrams has been very adamant that this film focuses on the characters in a big way. For that matter, so did Top Gun.

...and as for Kirk giving a high-five, it looked more like a pat/slap on the shoulder to me.

When I went to see Quantum today, Star Trek was the very first trailer they showed, which means a lot of the late-arrivers missed it. But they were sure to see Fast & Furious though!

* After see the trailer, the USS Kelvin looks even more strange. I still don´t know if the ship have two or one nacelles, or one of nacelles merged with the underdisc hull.

LOL

I'm WANT to say I told you so SO BADLY... LOL.

*sigh*

I will say this... the space battle visuals are admittedly nice.

Everything else sucks royal balls.

- Young Kirk somehow stole Marty McFly's jacket from 2015.
- The motorcycle riding time traveler is even reminiscent of the scene from "Back to the Future".
- The 1701 being FULLY built on Earth... how absolutely laughingly stupid, much like JJ himself.
- The very sound and attitude of Simon Pegg as Scotty in the scene clip is enough to convince me this film will in no way take Star Trek seriously, again, much like JJ himself.

Star Trek is SO dead, LOL...

Amen. Our beloved Trek is in danger of being dumbed down for the masses.

I think that happened when Seven of Nine started walking around in her catsuit.

Great trailer. It'll be interesting to find out what that frickin dinosaur thing was. LOL

What scene? "The" scene?

Stupid Roddenberry. In The Making of Star Trek, Roddenberry and Whitfield say the Enterprise was built in the "old San Francisco Navy Yard," and April says the same thing in TAS.

Have you watched TOS lately? Scotty often had corny, exaggerated, and/or light-hearted lines. Pegg's two lines (which were obviously edited together here) from the film are just fine and consistent with Doohan's Scotty.
