i went and saw it again this afternoon. during the day it is only playing in two theatres (it picks up some more at night.)
and the thing was still 75 percent full.
just shocked.
oh yeah it really seems the kelvin is talking to somebody nearby.
it would make sense if the federation had outposts along the klingon border like they do along romulan.

Actually this movie is having some major legs comparatively, it wasn't as front loaded as other major hits.
Consider Revenge of the Sith in 2005 on day 56 a Wednesday did $358,587 in 1355 theaters.
Star Trek on a day 56 a Thursday in 1148 theaters does $430,000.
I'd say that's just about as good as legs can get for a non-front loaded movie.

It was awesome. My son actually went with me again for a 4th time (5th time overall, once with 9 friends of his), along with another guy, relatively new husband to a long-time neighbor who just turned 60 and looks like Santa.
Anyway, the place was very well attended--I'd say 90-100 people in what looked like a 260 or so capacity theater.
13 bucks a pop, reserved seating. Waited a bit too long and got row 5 a bit off to the right side. Next time I go, I will get seats at least 5 rows further back and to the middle.
The head honcho I talked to said that this was the first movie company other than Warner that they got a "first run" movie from, i.e., Paramount. They are trying to find the balance between those 3D nature films and blockbuster movies.
The Dark Knight set records nationwide for 2nd run IMAXes, he said, and The 300 and The Watchmen also did well. Next up they hope, if Star Trek does equally well or better, is Transformers, and then, perhaps, actual release-date first run Harry Potter.
All I care about, of course, although I might watch those movies, is whether the next Star Trek movie gets first-run there... I'd rather watch it 9-10 times there than at a "regular" theater...
I'd say it'll hit $250 by the end of Sunday. At least I hope!
Saw it for my 8th time yesterday. The theater was packed! The show before it was pretty packed as well, I had just gotten out of Up when a rush of people came out of the 90 seat theater.
My theater has it playing just 5 times a day now but its playing more than Angels and Demons, Terminator, Night at the Museum and Land of the Lost. X Men still plays 5 times a day for whatever reason and I know I don't sell nearly enough tickets for that as I do for Star Trek.

Yeah but look at the 4 films above it, they are all primed for rapid descent.
If Trek is still filling theaters, maybe some swap outs will happened once the bookings for new releases is over.
If I am a theater manager and I see Year One filling only 25% of it's seats and Trek still filling 75% of the seats what am I going to do?
I hope they follow your logic; I also have read that July 4 weekends see a Saturday drop-off... so...
