Official Star Trek Week 8 Box Office Thread

Don't be silly -- sorry for the loss.

My IMAX begins showing Star Trek on Friday, 8 p.m. showings every day for a limited engagement.

Hope to make it 2-3 times before my wife bludgeons me with a rolling pin... :p

I was way overdue. Fact is, though, I have a vision problem. For many years it was virtually impossible for me to watch video or read. I've been on the federal Talking Book program since 1990. I use adaptive software to make sound files off the internet and for books. About a decade ago, I started taking medication twice a day that helps my situation. When I go to see the movie, I have to plan to do nothing else with my eyes that day.

Yay for medication that improves your vision and your quality of life!

I really want to see it a 4th time before it goes, but its leaving theaters so fast and I want to see Public Enemies and Away We Go this week. We shall see.

Wednesday (7/1) Box Office - Trek #11 - $0.3 million - $247.6 millio

WEDNESDAY BOX OFFICE

1. ICE AGE 3 - 13,791,157 - 13,791,157
2. TRANSFORMERS 2 - 10,939,131 - 239,380,350
3. PUBLIC ENEMIES - 8,165,025 - 8,165,025
4. THE PROPOSAL - 2,865,000 - 78,053,000
5. THE HANGOVER - 2,405,000 - 190,786,740
6. MY SISTER'S KEEPER - 1,965,000 - 18,713,850
7. UP - 1,570,000 - 256,535,000
8. YEAR ONE - 642,960 - 35,288,152
9. THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3 - 459,802 - 55,430,631
10. NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM II - 418,067 - 165,157,635
11. STAR TREK - 319,713 - 247,625,972
12. AWAY WE GO - 197,000 - 4,731,622

Star Trek fell out of the Top 10 for the first time during its run. It spent a total of 55 days in the Top 10.

It dropped 54% from last Wednesday, one of the film's largest week-to-week drops for any day, and 39% from Tuesday (also a fairly large drop). This was likely due to the loss of some screens to make room for the two new releases.

Transformers 2 should make enough today to pass Star Trek, pushing it down to the #3 spot for the year.

International Number: $124,881,572
Global Number: $372,507,544

Wow. :(

It had to happen, I guess, but and it's only cold comfort to surmise that it would've pulled in .5 K or more had the theaters been there.

I guess the new releases make more for the theaters even with the cut skewed more to the studios.

The only bright spot is that weekend predictions suggest Star Trek will bounce Night out and remain within a hair's breadth of Pelham and Year One.

Also, I have to ask the guy at my local IMAX on Friday how many other second-tier IMAXes will be getting Star Trek, because that could help boost the figures just a bit.

On the other hand, July 4th weekends are not that huge a movie-going weekend from what I understand.

It is and it isn't. It depends on when the 4th is. When it actually falls on Saturday or Sunday, then it hurts the box office. When its on another day and creates a long weekend, its good.

Well crap... Maybe some folks will take the Friday or Monday of the weekend off just to make it a long weekend.

Oh well, just bummed about the theater counts too...

It dropped 53% from last Wednesday, one of the film's largest week-to-week drops for any day, and 37% from Tuesday (also a fairly large drop). This was likely due to the loss of some screens to make room for the two new releases.

The 37% drop may indicate a similar percent loss of theaters, which won't be a surprise. Terminator is losing more than 70% of its theaters.

70%, that's rather surprising.

Not really. It only made $1 million from over 1100 screens last weekend.

Yeah, with Ice Age 3 and Public Enemies debuting yesterday, I kind of figured Trek's days in the Top 10 were over. There's certainly far fewer theatres around here showing the movie. Ah well, no complaints -- it's certainly had a better run than I ever would have predicted. :)

That's nice to see. If it comes in close to that, it would end the weekend right at $250M.

I'm still bummed it's not playing in my area - I wanted to see it again over the long weekend. I guess Transformers it is, then.

So Trek was down to 1148 theaters on Wednesday.

It'll be interesting to see if it loses anymore. Public Enemies doesn't have its full opening until Friday I believe (it had only 900 theatres on Wednesday).
