Official site now has music? From the actual soundtrack?

Sounds like Giacchino to me. When the site first loads, the music begins to play and it almost reminded me some of his work from "Lost". To me, this doesn't sound anything like the other scores from Trek's past. And that's just fine. Nevertheless, the music on the site doesn't blow me away - but I'm sure they're holding back the best music for the film itself!

It's been looping for me for quite a while now and the more I hear it the more past Trek soundtrack influences I hear coming out of it.

Sounds excellent (for a more pensive and introspective scene), but I am hoping for an upbeat, fast, and loud main title.

I am not a fan of the slower main titles such as the ones for First Contact, Insurrection, Voyager and DS9.

I agree, this piece does have a very STVI: TUC feel to it...

Yah, I've listened to it for a bit now & get a classic Trek movie feel from it. If this IS from XI, I for some reason get the feeling it is the opening music.

Well it's definitely composed by Giacchino! It's got that all over it. But does have a very Trek flavor as well. Should be a good score, but with Giacchino writing it I wasn't the least bit worried about the music to begin with.

Some decent thematic elements are present in that piece, it's a very stylish take on Trek music.

What I want to know is who wrote the music for this latest trailer. It's a cliche in epicness to the extreme, but it's still a treat to listen to!

If you go to the site and close your eyes, you can imagine you've just bought the DVD and popped it in. This lost it's appeal for me after a couple hours though.

Well, to me, it's not good enough to be the main title.

If it is, then it's a disappointment for the reasons I stated above.

Okay... this might be the one thing that totally gets me to see the film... this music is AWESOME!!!

It is darker, and more moody, but it is TOTALLY Trek... it is very reminiscent of parts of James Horner's score for TWOK. This is very nicely done music.

Didn't they say at some point that they will be using the classic Trek theme for the movie ? Or i suppose a Giacchino version of it.

I'd probably get bored after a couple hours of staring at a DVD menu screen too. ;)

It's available for download at TrekCore. I need more because I've been listening to the same minute and a half of music for two hours!

I'm a Giacchino fan and this is all him. If I had to compare it to anything else, I'd say it has a Hunt for Red October by way of Lost sound to it. I'm sure someone can tell me what classical composers that kind of sound is lifted from. Horner has used it, Poledouris used it, Jarre has used it. It's a "big lonely nautical" sound. And it's got some Zimmer / Arnold style percussion. So it's what I expected from Giacchino: A classic sounding score with modern touches.

As far as what I think it "is"? It sounds (to me) like Jim Kirk. It sounds like the punk kid taking his destiny. ("No escaping, that's for me!") If I had to guess a plot point I'd say it's joining Starfleet or taking command or some such pivitol moment. Just a guess.

I'll be curious to see if this movie has a big "Main Title" or if it will just have a title card and go right into the movie. We might not get the big "THEME" until the end credits.

Giacchino took a lot of Mission: Impossible music from the series that wasn't just the theme for his M:I3 score, kind of like how Horner used lots of TOS music throughout TWOK (Khan's Pets / Kill Admiral Kirk) that wasn't just the Courage theme. Won't surprise me a bit if Giacchino takes the same approach. I also think that the overall score will be more TWOK than TOS, just because I think I've heard that's Giacchino's favorite.

But we'll know soon, won't we?

When I first heard the beginning notes on the site, it sounded like another steal of the 'jog round the centrifuge' from 2001, something Horner does in ALIENS and the Jack Ryan pics.

But later on I turned the music on again and listened to it all the way through and was favorably impressed. The composer is the one element in the new TREK whose work I like, but it seems strange that the music is so introspective, so thoughtful. Seems totally at odds with the movie we are getting, more in line with something wonderful like ROAD TO PERDITION.

I wonder if this is the Kirk theme, like what he has going during emotional / physical struggles. I could imagine it in a home situation OR on a snow planet surrounded by big fish that keeping eating each other before they can eat him (sorry, mixed that up with PHANTOM MENACE for a sec.)

Aram Khachaturian's Gayaneh ballet. I listen to that and Goldsmith's The Enterprise about four or five times a day. :) Now that you mention it I can hear it, but it sounds so much more like Lost that it never occurred to me. I mean, they're both strings...

I don't know. From the three trailers we've seen it seems to me there will be plenty of moody introspection. Especially from what I've heard of the Kirk story. Or the Spock story for that matter. I could mix up a trailer to Where No Man Has Gone Before or even The Cage and make it look like ALL ACTION! ALL THE TIME! I'm hoping for a good balance myself.

Does anyone know where I can find the music from the just released new trailer? I looked for it on iTunes and well can't find it there. I got the name from the trekweb site and its called Freedom Fighters. I found a song from the same title of the soundtrack of a game but I don't think its the same song.

Thanx. Wasn't sure if that was the same thing I was looking for.

I've had it looping while I work. it's nice... a bit introspective. and yep, like someone said upthread -- it sounds like something that runs during the later credits.

I haven't listened to a soundtrack piece for so long since ST: Is there In Truth No Beauty/Paradise Syndrome, TFF & TUC.

Sounds very nice I must say. Yes you can totally hear it's Giacchino but it's definetly got a Trek feel to it. Will be looking forward to the full soundtrack. :)
